It's come to my attention that some people think that, while it's possible to get in, it's not possible to get out of Kraid's lair without the rail power on.  This is most certainly not the case, as five minutes of experimenting proved.

Because everybody seems to be doing the hip VBA movie thing, here are two VBA movies, one of me going into Kraid's lair without rail power, the other with me going out.

VBA v1.7 w/BIOS:

Kraid In: http://academic.evergreen.edu/l/linjon28/kraid_in.zip

Kraid Out: http://academic.evergreen.edu/l/linjon28/kraid_out.zip

I hope this makes it clear that the rail power isn't really neccicary at all. (Although it's taken me three days of practice to get to the point where I can get in without using save states).

[edit] I just figured out that the power grip isn't actually neccicary for this part, making this little trick a little more useful.
Thread title:
wow, I thought you had to do an infinite hover diagonal bomb jump to get in(i even made it halfway across the room >__>). Definitly something to be doen in my next run.
Thats really nice.  In a related note, LLDave just showed me you can use speed boost to reach the energy tank under the boss, so it's actually quite easy.  Humbug.

Also, I don't really know why 1.6a is supposed to be better for movies, but that movie works fine in 1.6a.
I actually just finished a game that got in and out without savestates at all, a feat I was ready to declare impossible two days ago.  I found out I didn't need the power grip after I already had it, and I ended up with way more missles than I needed, so it's hard to judge how much time I saved.  Schoolwork is preventing me from devoting to much time to the game.  But my minty-fresh legal copy is conviniently portable, so maybe I can find out during lecture...

Metroids are kinda related to physics, right?

E=mc^2, Metroids consuming life-force energy increase their body mass.

Indeed they are related to physics.
I can't seem to get the videos to work. It gives some error with the BIOS. Any help?
You need to have the GBA BIOS file to watch the movies.  I'm sure you can find it somewhere in the darker corners of the internet.
