Considering that no other Metroid title but Metroid Prime has had 3D graphics... Yes.

*imagines a NES game with 3-D real time rendering*

*realizes that with all the stunts hackers pull, somebody's tried to do that. And it might have actually WORKED.*

Speaking of which, this mall near me has stands every once in a while in the path that sell all sorts of stuff no one would want to buy if they thought about it.. anyway, they've got some of those pirate NES thingies, where you get an NES or emulator or whatever in a controller to plug into your TV and it comes with one of those (insert 32-bit intiger limit here) in 1 packs that are really just the same 50 or so games repeated over and over again... they were shaped like Dreamcast controllers (not as dumb as one I've seen that was shaped like an N64 controller)... and anyway I saw some young kid come up and try it, cause they were on display in the cart, and there's this game marked Teletubbies, right? Well, it turns out, some bizzare hacker made a version of Mario Brothers (not Super Mario Brothers) and replace Mario and Luigi with semi-poorly-drawn teletubbies.

I'm scared for our future.

Dude that is vandalism at it's worse.  Crying or Very sad
That is almost as bad as.. as.. going into Metroid Prime and replacing the 3d models with lowpoly stickfigures that have half-completed animations and whos keyframes arn't timed right so they move really fast.

Anyways...

About the movie, Hollywood doesn't really know how to transition Games-Movies, the statistics even prove it:

- Super Mario Movie
- Resident Evil
- House of the dead
- Mortal Kombat
- Final Fantasy
- Tomb Raider
- Tomb Raider 2
- Street Fighter

^^
Well this is why you don't let Americans write scripts for Japanese games (and this is definitely why you dont try to rationalize games like Super Mario).
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Am I the only one that thought Mortal Kombat was half-decient? It wasn't hilariously bad like Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, in any case. And Resident Evil wasn't terribly offensive.
直死の魔眼使い
A note of warning: I just casted Laura Prepon because I consider her to be incredibly hot. :P But a friend of mine opened my eyes, and now, seriously speaking, I'd like to see Rosamund Pike on the role. Here's a pic:

I dunno about you guys, but to me she pretty much looks almost exactly like ZM Samus. :D
Last Time I checked the guy who bought the rights to Metroid movie ran out of time and the rights reverted back to Nintendo...
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.

You do realize we're talking about something pretty recent and about a different guy, right?

Super Mario Bros. = sucked
Resident Evil = sucked
House of the dead = sucked
Mortal Kombat = sucked
Metal Gear (in the works) = 95% chance of sucking.
Final Fantasy (not really based on the game though) = sucked
Tomb Raider = Sucked
Tomb Raider 2 = Sucked
Street Fighter = Sucked

Wing Commander = sucked

Resident Evil = haven't seen the film neither played the games but others told me that it wasn't THAT bad.

Mario Bros was kinda funny but weird...

The problem with film adaptations of computer games is that if they stay to near to game it becomes weird, especially for people who don't know the game. If they got too far away, it hasn't the game 's "spirit" anymore.

The second one will likely happen to beloved metroid ("sexy bounty hunter"  gasp  Shocked  )
Is it too late to put the dual-arm blaster into the create a powerup thread?

That woman looks a little too well fed and cheerful.

Samus is more of an aqualine predator.  Not exactly brooding in a portentious way, but rather brooding in a distracted, calculating fashing, like Batman.

The best way to portray the effect of dark memories on a will that overcomes is to simply blank the expression when direct human interaction isn't called for.  Anything else is overacting.

I realize that Samus has a specific appearance since they turned her into a hoochymama for the GBA endings, but my idea of what Samus looks like is this:

Yes, that's Bebe Neuwirth....

No, you're not.  I thought that the original Mortal Kombat was pretty good, too.  Annihilation, on the other hand... *vomits*

ehhh no I didn't... :P

I liked the first Mortal Kombat, but hated Annihilation. Resi Evil wasn't too bad either. Licker could've looked more realistic though. but hey it was a good attempt especially for a British made film!
I see ONE possible opening for a Metroid movie. A pre-Zero Mission movie. A movie about the raids on K2-L, about Samus' life with the Chozo, and her training, and how the power suit was customized to fit her, etc.

It'd work, but then again, the more we learn about Samus' past, the more the mystery disappears, and the more the cool-factor fades away.

That's a bad thing.
The article says it'll focus on her origins, meaning how her parents died, life with the Chozo growing up, acquiring her Power Suit and then kicking Pirate and Mother Brian ass for the sake of revenge.  If they even try some love story crap... poison marshmallows approach'eth.  Woo has some truly awesome Hong Kong films but I'm doubtful he can pull this movie off, or at least pull it off correctly.  And I agree with KennyMan to a point, there's no one cool enough, that the makers of the movie would choose, who would be able to play Samus.  They'd probably go for some big name actress that'll play it all wrong when they should actually look for an unknown that looks and acts how Samus is supposed to. There's someone out there who can do it, but the chances are nil that actress will ever get the chance to.

Oh, and in reference to bad video game movies, Resident Evil (the movie, not the game) is horribly, completely, thoroughly shitty.  You want to talk about a movie taking a 180 in coolness and scariness and a 90 on story from its source material, RE is it.  What a pile of crap.  The only video game movie I've ever enjoyed was the first Mortal Kombat.  Yeah, it was bad, but at least I didn't want to tear out the creators' larynxes and smash their fingers in a window to keep them from expressing their dumb video game movie ideas post-viewing.  It's like... have you even played the game, jackass?

Wouldn't that line imply that Samus too was competing for control of the galaxy? Wow. I never had Samus figured for a megalomaniacal villain.
Another concerning point is raised by the line "sexy bounty hunter Samus Aran"...I really can't imagine any film treating the issue of Samus being a woman with any kind of tact. I mean, in the games, part of her appeal is her mystery, and the fact that you only get to see her right at the end. If they made a film, they'd want to cast an attractive young actress in the role, and that would mean that they'd want her out of the suit a lot (if not most) of the time, flashing her bosoms whenever the opportunity arose...that's just not Samus, is it? :?

That line raised some eyebrows on this end as well.  when I hear the word "Samus", "sexy" is not the word that comes to mind.  I had no clue she was female until one of my friends tipped me off while playing SSB64.  I've got no qualms about the desire to show Samus's face a lot by having her take off her helmet more often than usual.  If this movie is not exclusively CG the actress in question would certainly not want to have her face covered up the whole time, even if it means she has to be implausible.  Just look at Hidalgo:  (spoilered for those who have not seen this great movie)

I'm not saying that I support the oppression of women by the government like the Taliban or anything like that by making customs like this actual law, but I seriously doubt that that a devout Muslim woman would have uncovered her face to our hero like that in that day and age.  It wasn't realistic.  The actress wanted the audience to see her face, which is understandable.

And the reason that the crew of everyone's favorite Starship Enterprise never beamed down to a planet where they would need environment suits was that William Shatner (Kirk) wouldn't wear a helmet on camera, or that's what I've heard.

Given that, I wouldn't mind if Samus decides to leave her helmet at home for much of this movie, but taking her out of the Suit pretty much at all unless they want to have a backstory at the beginning would be absurd.  Let's hope Hollywood shows some decency here...
Wow, they all have 3d graphics?  This is news to me...

They could do it like Star Wars.  James Earl Jones voiced Darth Vader, but he wasn't the guy in the suit.  So they get some random guy to walk around in it, and some big-name actress to provide the voice and act in the suitless scenes.

David Prowse, if I remember correctly.

Ah, right you are, Ken.  The Voice doesn't even take credit for "being" Darth Vader, he gives it all to Prowse.  Very amicable...

I think they had some sword-fighter dudes in there for the duels, though.

More to the point:  Why would it have to be a guy in the suit?  It wouldn't have to be the same girl that voice-acts, but it would be...wrong...to have a guy in that suit.  Now, if the suit was blue, that would be different...
If they get J-Lo or Britney Spears to be Samus.....

*adds extra poison to the marshmallows and prepares some cyanide whiskey just in case*

Doing the origins of Samus would probably be the ONLY way they could have some sort of story behind the film as well as having conversations between characters. After all a Metroid game is her running around shooting stuff the entire time (except MF, she gets to moan at Adam)
Yeah. If they make a movie, there's only one way to do it. Origins.

Now, am I the only one who looks at rapid unravelling quite negativly? I don't WANT to know how Samus grew up! I never want anyone to know! That just makes everything... I mean... there's nothing left to discover once they do that...
