I've got a save file with the game 100% complete in about 1:40. However, it's been years since I played it, and I've started a new game from a complete file (not that file, obviously - I'm not losing that time) so I can see how many of everything is left in each area. I'm just up to the Diffusion Missile upgrade, and my time is 2:11, with 15/20 ET, 40/48 ME, 10/32 PBE so far. Obviously, with the stuff I've got left to do, and the clean-up, collecting the rest of the expansions, my time will be close to 3 hours. Obviously, having done 100% in 1:40, it's very possible, but why am I finding it so damn hard now? I'm not dawdling, and I seem to remember not having to really rush - just to do it fairly quickly.

Also, I can't for the life of me fire that missile to freeze the spiky thing by the Diffusion upgrade. I'm trying to use the alternate method to get the secret method, and no matter how I fire the missile, it either hits the corner of the wall, or lands next to the spiky thing and doesn't freeze it. However, I can't seem to hold certain keys down at the same time - maybe that's the problem? Do I need to hold the diagonal fire button, or can I hold down + left and fire?

EDIT: Never mind, I realised I've got to hold LEFT constantly after firing the missile to bend it properly. Strange how holding a direction AFTER firing can make that much of a difference!

Cheers,

Matt

I haven't lost my touch.

Also, yeah, when samus moves it sort of adds her momentum to the missiles. So if you move forward, it will bend it. Same with other beams, though its just more noticeable with missiles.

I feel really stupid now. After so many years of not playing it, I couldn't remember where anything was. I was missing one energy tank in the main (starting) area, and I was doing the usual trick of checking every room that had a blank space next to it. I found a missile block, but the room had a dot in it, so I stupidly thought that meant there used to be something behind the missile block. Of course, there was a hidden passage to another room there, which I cleverly missed, and after about three hours of searching, I finally gave in and looked at a map. How stupid I felt.

Anyway, if I attempt another playthrough soon, I'll probably get the 100% a lot quicker, hopefully within 2 hours now I know where everything is (if I can remember...)

EDIT: I did a single-session playthrough just now, only saving once at the end (I did use save states just in case, but never died) and got a time of 2:16 with 100%. I managed to remember where everything is, and I got MOST stuff as it became available, including that missile tank where you have to run through the blue barrier thing before it fully forms. The couple of things I forgot I didn't lose any time in getting on my next trip through (during the clean-up). I also used the alternate method to get the secret message, then went the long way round back to the secret entrance of sector 4 from sector 5, and that probably wasted some time. Next time, I'll hopefully do it in under two hours, and regain my ability! It shows how rusty we can get if we don't play these games for a few years...

Cheers,

Matt
