I have started to look for secret worlds on Metroid and record my findings using Nestopia. I have to note I use Game Genie codes and the Debug Password to look for the secret worlds. I also use Savestates so I can save my progress. My first movie is right here. In this one, I go under the elevator to Norfair from Brinstar and reach the strangest place you've ever seen. Enjoy.

Update: Sorry, uploading my video may take some time. Just give me a while. For some reason the file download doesn't show up.

I'll be back. Maybe...
a secret world hunt? interesting, though of little use...
it would be easier just to search the rom for the section that designates what type of room is in each block, and look at the parts that don't correspond to normally visitable rooms...

wouldn't it?

Ready and willing.
If what I know about the way the game works is right? No.
If you are going to be looking for the Secret Worlds in Metroid all by yourself, then that's great.  They are quite fun to play with except for the constant resetting when you get terminally stuck.  I guess that emulators are good for something!  Hope you have fun with it!

If you'd like a reference for some of the SWs, MdB has archived the "Great Secret World Hunt," in which a great deal of folks on the internet got together to hunt down and document all the SWs they could find (and back in 1997 no less!).  It is quite a mess (and the images are all broken now), but they do report the Game Genie SWs.

For the non-Game Genie SWs, LifeMega here at M2K2 has made an excellent series of screenshot maps.

And, if you care, the first SW found in Metroid was in Hideout II, back in 1987.
yeah
Alright, gimme a minute to go through the Secret World again with FCE Ultra, because Nestopia sucks.  :|

Got two right here. This is the first Secret World, which I've named Norstar. I used 3 GG codes, as you'll notice throughout the videos. Enjoy.

You don't, they've become obsolete after 8 months.

Yeah that's the only method for 1 or 2 item runs. You can morph/unmorph to get the same effect much faster, but if you're morphed for too long, you can't unmorph and have to roll out and start over from the door.
