Yeah, i gues that shinespark could work well if done correctly, i see 2 ways for this...
A. 3d zoomed out: when you achieve speed boost speed, the camera "lags" out of samus head which is how the transition to 3d works, she running all shiny like through multiple things, when fully charged, her suit starts opening up a little bit... when you stop, a 3d aiming device (you know, multiple O O O O or something of the sort in the direction your going to launch) will appear.. you have about 5 seconds, then you go flying in that direction. when you hit something solid or have to stop, the force of impact would cause the camera to go back into the suit.. if you hit a wall while running or if you just stopped, the force of impact forces the camera back into her head, or just it would keep moving while she stopped....
B. staying in the suit. I guess while running there could be some sort of glowly something on the edges of the screen along with distorted "tunnel" vision (fisheye or some sort) launching the shinespark would be something along with just aiming with R.
i dunno, still doesn't seem like it would be that smooth, but thats just me talking.

To me that's the only way that would make sense at all.
I really missed the speed booster in Prime. I also think the temporary 3D person view would be the best solution.
The problem with space jump and shinespark is the relative high number of open air areas in Prime. They would have to force you to stay below a certain high and that wouldn't be _to_ high... IF they bring these technniques, they will probably have to change the level architecture drastically (more caves and rooms)
The Prime 2 trailer show that there seem to be morph ball jump in the next game, but this may only be in this cutscene.
I hope they reuse the missile system, because in Super I nearly never shoot any missile except where nothing other could harm the opponent (e. g. metroids) In Prime the better weapons just used more missiles, which made them never useless (Super Missiles :D )
Anyone other noticed that the Thermal Visor acted nearly like a X-Ray visor, and the X-Ray visor only let you see through the special obstacles ... and your rigth arm... :?
Adding two new items to every new game released tends to ruin thing. I already think Fusion and Zero Mission are going a bit too far. Wide beam? Power grip? What?!
It starts out with getting good ideas to enhance gameplay, and ends with having to toss in tons of new stuff to get games sold. I mean, come on, was the long beam thing really neccessary?
If I could decide, I'd remove several "standard" items and make room for new, more discreet things. One thing I never really liked in the old-skool Metroids are the beam combinations. So sue me. It works, it's fun, but I have NO idea how the hell you're supposed to make plasma out of pure electrons that freeze creatures on impact. I'd prefer if only some things could be combined. Now, charge combos like in Prime would work excellently in all games, though, if the cost wasn't that damn high. Give that flamethrower a near-instant kill, make the wavebuster's beam have a chain lightning effect and triple the freeze time and area of the ice spreader, THEN we're talking.
Also, I was never a fan of the continous space jump. I'd prefer a plain old double jump, like Prime did it. Maybe do it the way Super Smash Bros. did it? Two jumps finished off with a screw attack for three times the height/length.... It _could_ work... As for completely new things... hmmm... How does a flashlight sound? Maybe do what I'm doing in one of the game projects I'm working on, and have a photon cannon. That is, a beam of light strong enough to burn enemies. The charge combo for that could work as a powerful blast, followed by the arm cannon emitting light for half a minute or so. Then we could have the obligatory boss that can only be damaged by destroying the lights in the room to make it activate its night vision, then shoot it in the eye with a beam of pure light But hey, I'm already using that idea.
How about.... umm... Nah, I need all the ideas for myself, I won't waste them here. ... oy... Damn, I type a lot...
Random/pointless/unnecessary note: The Long Beam is part of the original Metroid. That's probably why it was left in.
Also, I disagree with the idea that they should stop inventing new upgrades. With the way it works in Fusion and Zero Mission, it does not feel (to me, anyway) that they went overboard at all. All of the upgrades serve a purpose (other than maybe the "Spring Ball", though it's been in every game except the original); if they started adding a lot of upgrades that seem extraneous, then I would get worried. As long as they invent upgrades that have add new gameplay mechanics, and find ways to implement those mechanics into the level design well, I'm all for it.
It would be great to see Beam-Missile Combos in a side-scroller. Also switchable Beams. You could have the switch set to Select+D-pad since they appear to be leaning away from having to pause to switch anything. A richceting Beam would rock, too.
Well, you had beam/power bomb combos in Super. That's kind of like a beam/missile combo.
Well, yeah, but... they sucked. In Prime, only one sucked. :)
not to mention that III's combos served a totally different purpose than Beam-Missile Combos. Which of those sucked, Yoshi? I've only seen Super Missile and Wavebuster, and Wavebuster was only on a friend's game. I'm not very good at Prime...
Ah. It was cool in SSBM, and I think that's the reason they decided to include it in Prime, becasue everyone was wondering where the heck Samus got a Flamethrower.
I don't know. I only ever used it once, and that was in a Save Room just to see how it looked. I'd assume that it has some kind of finite range, though.
Well, I know that it can go through walls and it takes a while to get to your opponent. I alos know that it has quite a bit of range, but I'm wondering about infinite.
Wavebuster + Meta Ridely - PAL version = Supreme pwnage. And the Wavebuster also helps if you suck at the invisible drone. But... is there anyplace anymore where a real speed run uses the wavebuster, now that we have the boost attack on Ridely?

It means to absolutely destroy or beat very, very badly, esp. in video games. It's mostly PC gamer slang, from my experience. And it's pronounced "pone".
Wavebuster is still useful against Primes first form. As near as I know it's faster to use all your beam-missle combos against it (except for the flamethrower).
