Unsure if this has been discovered yet (knowing the people at this place, it probably has XD), but I figure I might as well post it anyway. Who knows? Maybe I ended up finding something new.
In Metroid Processing, you can skip going down the elevator to weld together the wires. There's a turbine-ish thing near the Ice Missile Door. Approach it, then take a few steps away from it. Roll into Morph Ball, and do a spring-BSJ (I believe that's it). If done correctly, you should end up on the upper level. I'm unsure whether or not it's required to kill the pirates to do this, but, even if it isn't, I'm pretty sure it'll be tougher if you don't.
Obviously, it only saves about a minute or so (probably less), but hey - every second counts in a speedrun, right?
