because there is one energy tank that you cant get by without getting. I believe around here they call it a "bob". It is near the beginning of the game.
At the beginning of the game, there is an energy tank in a morph ball tunnel. (when you see Rundas fighting some pirates.) There is no way around it. Additionally, you need 100+ energy to enter hyper mode. With 0 enery tanks, you only have 99 enery max. Theorecially, it may be possible to enter hyper mode with no energy tanks by getting forced into hyper mode (phazon grenade) and then using the overheal glitch to push your energy above 100.
Maybe possible to skip using Moon Jump code with GeckoOS but I haven't had any luck. You would literally have to be outside the level from the very first room of the ship (as there aren't any other ways to get to the SW).
You can skip that Energy Tank with the moon jump, by wallcrawling to the Aurora Unit. I was unable to get the morphball tunnel accellerator thingy in the room just past the tank to work from the SW state. If that could be done then other items can be picked up as you could proceed normally. By going directly to the Aurora Unit and skipping to that part of the game, Norian does not appear on the map (so no Grapple Lasso) and you never "learn" hypermode (you cannot wallcrawl to that room, a needed room does not load).
Basically, when you exit hyper mode (without using it up) the game gives you health back with no checks. If your hyper meter is full, you get 100 hp. Entering hyper mode reduces you health by 100. This means that you can collect energy refills while in hyper mode to regain the 100 energy and then exit hyper mode to get 100 more.
when you're in hypermode, the game increases the max amount of energy you can carry by one energy tank, and when you exit hypermode it doesn't reset your health back to max if you have extra, so you can have more health than you're supposed to be able to have. This is because of Phazon grenades, which automatically give you an extra energy tank when they force you into hypermode so you aren't forced to use up energy when you get hit by one. Hypermode itself doesn't use up energy unless you start using up the bar.
