metroid 2 is a really good game, it basically defined what metroid would become, except unlike the first game it's actually fun to play
ϟ
I have to go with
Super
Prime 2
Prime 1
Metroid 2
Fusion
Zero Mission
Prime 3
Metroid
Other M

I never played hunters and I probably never will.
I ranked Metroid 2 a higher spot because somewhat of ark said but mostly because its a new world to explore and how it made a strong comeback from Metroid 1 with its new powerups and better level design.

hunters is underrated. that's a really fun game.

I haven't had a chance to play since I couldn't afford it back then and I can't find it in any stores so I guess purchasing it online will help.
What'd you say?
Emulators always exist too, that's how I've played it.
ϟ
My computer can't play 3D emulators well and I hate 3D emulators because there are always graphical errors. Not mention I'm still stuck HP Palvion Windows Vista which turned out to be shit and haven't had the chance to upgrade to 7 or 8 yet.
What'd you say?
Can't you emulate GameBoy games on the Wii?
ϟ
Of course there is an application called VBA GX for the Homebrew Browser on the Wii.
What'd you say?
So, problem solved, right?
i personally wasn't a fan of metroid hunters <_< nor the original metroid. The original metroid was kinda cool for its time, but IMO it really hasn't aged well at all, and for me personally, it's very, very hard to play today. Super, on the other hand...

I really should give Metroid 2 a shot someday...

Uh no. Hunters is for the NDS if thats what you are implying. And if you are woundering yes there is an NDS emulator for the Wii but it is severely outdated and still does not work well.

d'oh! I don't know why, but I had thought we were talking about Metroid 2....

meh i'd rather pay thirty bucks or whatever for a real ds copy
Happy to see that I'm not the only one who likes MP2 the most out of the trilogy :P
Anywhere, everywhere
Hunters isn't as remotely as fun as the other DS game with Metroid in the title.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
That's not fair, you're comparing it to the greatest game of all time.
Super
Prime 2
Prime 1
Metroid 2
Fusion
Zero Mission
Prime 3
Hunters
Pinball
Metroid
Other M

Basically Super KB's list except Hunters and Pinball are added after Prime 3. I quite enjoy Prime 3 to be honest, and part of me wonders if it should be in front of the two GBA games on my list. Super tops it of course but after playing it waaay too fucking much, nostalgia is all but gone. I rank it now purely on playability/graphics/music and speed run potential than anything else. Which is everything a great game needs anyway Razz

I agree with Opium, Prime 2 takes the top spot of the trilogy.

Metroid NES I also agree with an above comment. It hasn't aged well Sad. But I'm not one of those people that will rate something highly just because it kickstarted something awesome. If anything Metroid 2 did that anyway with it's atmosphere, familiar powerups and Samus sprite.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
hm, haven't done one of these since i played m2.

fusion
mp2
mp1

zm
mp3

sm
m2 (i need to play this more)
other m

hunters
m1

the only big gaps are between the groups i made. the games that are close to each other are ones i like almost equally.

i don't think i could rank pinball there since that's a pinball game first. a ranking with it would be like this:

pokemon pinball RS
mp pinball
pokemon pinball (the old one)
I'm so happy to see prime 2 beating prime 1 in quite a few of these lists. I honestly expected only myself and mrspeedrun to have mp2 > mp1 and everyone else to put mp1 > mp2...
ϟ
I probably would have liked MP1 more if they put the Screw Attack in or at least thought about it... They could have made it exclusive when the Wii controls came.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Considering how it turned out I'm glad there was no Screw Attack. Shit is lame in the sequels.
It's pretty versatile actually, towards the end of the game at least, for traversing otherwise boring jumping sections over an abyss with cool precision space jumping. As it's essentially space jump as it was in super and adding on the wall jump ability as well. Granted the wall jump thing was so tacked on with those specific walls but it doesn't bog the game down as those parts were few and far between anyway. Being that the screw attack in prime 2 is very powerful and can be used against the final boss (with difficult accuracy), Whether a glitch or not, makes it seem reasonably worthwhile.

i loved prime 2 + 3's screw attack actually, they managed to make it useful + a lot of fun
I also liked screw attack in both games, and as behemoth said, it's surprisingly useful and versatile, and very, very powerful. It's unfortunate they removed the ability to cancel it in the middle in mp3, but at least mp3's wallumping works better than mp2's. MP2's was pretty boring in terms of walljumping, because there are basically only 4 walls in the game, whereas in MP3 there are many, many more walls (and you get screw attack a lot earlier). It'd be nice if MP1 had screw attack...

then again, nobody cares about distance in MP1 since you can basically go anywhere in the game with scan dashes
