Secret Ending:

God dang is this hunters 2 I'm seeing?

In any case hyper mode difficulty is ridiculous. The first berserker lord killed me. This'll take a while to crack
Thread title:
Hah! So there's a "RLY HARD MODE" for everybody who's been complaining about the difficulty.

Now they shall swallow their words!..

...or just complain about having to unlock it

Complete the game on either difficulty. Not hard to do.

I have yet to die so far, and I just got my P.E.D. Suit, but many times came close. I'm probably going to die a lot at Byrro. ._. And the /b/Lord, as I like to call him, hits way too hard...

That looked a bit like Sylux's ship, actually...
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
I'm 100% certain it's Sylux's ship.

...

Retro better follow up on this.
I wonder if some scans will reveal any clues.
Is it just me or does anybody else think Sylux is human.  His suit is a prototype suit designed by the GF for humans after all.

I always thought all the other hunters died at the end of Hunters anyway.  Now I'm not so sure.

They escaped at the end of Hunters--you can see all six of their ships flying away from Oubliette as it's exploding.
yeah thats why I figured it might be a hunters 2 in the making
I SERIOUSLY doubt Hunters 2 is in the making...

...

...mostly out of blind hope.

Didn't Hunters sell fairly well? If so, then there's a good chance that yes, Hunters 2 is in fact in the making.
Either that, or they felt that Sylux is the one that most people like and would fit well into the Metroid series again down the line. I know how popular Trace is for a lot of people, but I can't see him being a recurring rival for Samus like I can Sylux and Weavel.
Metroid Dread anyone? Thats HEAVILY hinted at.

I also get the feeling that where never gonna reach metroid 2 in the storyline. Wouldn't make sense for this mysterious ship to catch up with samus after fusion...

And is it me, or did they not answer how Metroids got on Phaaze?
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
They did, but kinda indirectly--a huge Space Pirate fleet was stationed at Phaaze, remember?  The Space Pirates seem to have a nasty habit of just dropping Metroids on any planet they pass by.
I'm not sure if anyone else paid enough attention to this, but did you happen to do some scanning in the room with the young Leviathan on Phaaze? Near the far wall are what appear to be two of Metroid Prime's first form legs, and scanning them indicated that they are the same design as what you saw in the crater of Tallon IV.

And an even bigger thing is that you can scan the Leviathan's larva and get some more information about how Metroid Prime appears to have formed. It mentions how once the leviathan impacts the larva, now grown to maturity, finds the best available creature to bond and mutate with. From what I can guess, this is how and why Metroid Prime looks the way it does and has a similar genetic structure to Metroids. And could explain how Samus's genetic structure ended up in Dark Samus if it was back in it's pure form after the battle and attempted to bond with a new creature. In this case, it was Samus who was the strongest and nearest.

On one final note, I think Retro has officially chosen the PAL storyline for Prime, because of the two legs being in that same room. Because in the original NA version isn't it implied that Metroid Prime assimilated the pirate technology to build it's outer shell? If that's true, what are the legs doing in the depths of Phaaze?

I can't remember the exact specifics of the two scans, so can anyone back me up on this?

Heh, I didn't get those scans, I was too busy going OH GOD OH GOD MUST HURRY WHY THE HELL DO I HAVE TO SHOOT THIS THING ELEVENTY BILLION TIMES. So glad blowing that thing up gave lots of health.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
I've never really understood why we didn't just accept the PAL story as canon in the first place, considering there must have been something that Retro found inherently wrong with it originally to have had to have changed it.

Well, honestly because it was a such a detail that it wasn't worth the effort to bother. Plus they're both plot holes.
Metroid Prime incorporated Pirate technology into its biomass, yes, but it was in the form of shields and weaponry. The exoskeleton is mutagenic in nature.

Applicable Pirate Data:

Log 11.377.1
Subject Metroid Prime's breach has been contained. Reports indicate that it sensed a large batch of raw Phazon in the lab from within its stasis tank and broke through the glass, using previously unsuspected strength. Besides consuming all of the Phazon, Metroid Prime assimilated several weapons and defense systems from fallen security units. It has suffered no ill effect from said assimilation: indeed, it began to use its newly acquired weapons against us. Once we pacified it, we were unable to remove the assimilated gear without threat to Metroid Prime--the gear is now an integral part of its body. Command is intrigued by this newfound ability, and has ordered further study to commence at once.

Log 11.402.5
Metroid Prime continues to feed and grow ever larger in the impact crater caves. Its hunger knows no bounds, and it has begun to manifest unusual mutations since its breach. These include armor plating on its epidermis and mechanical outgrowths that generate defense screens. These screens render it invulnerable to most weapon systems, but a flaw in the mutation leads to increased vulnerability to certain weapons. It compensates for this by shifting the screens quickly. This latest development concerns Security units greatly: they feel it's a matter of time before Metroid Prime corrects this defect and renders itself invulnerable to all weaponry. Containment would be nigh impossible if this were to occur.
Yeah, I remember that from the original NA version. But then Retro seemed to realize that it could never have happened if Prime was locked in the Impact Crater on Tallon IV, because the Pirates could never get in through the entire game. So how did Prime get Pirate technology if they supposedly never met?

The only explanation I can think of is that Prime was able to escape, but only to the deepest parts of the Phazon Mines, where the Pirates were. Being as big as it was, there was no way for it to reach the surface like it probably could've once the Artifact Temple had been unlocked.

Hey, it sort of works for the original NA version of the story... doesn't it? laugh new
Look, witty text!
I had always imagined that Metroid Prime had managed to breach the Chozo containment field.  There's even Chozo lore that says that the Chozo didn't know how long the Cipher would be able to contain the Worm.

The thing that I don't get is the whole deal with the red phazon-like substance found in Tallon IV's impact crater.  It's 80% more potent than phazon, even, but there's no explanation or even mention of it.
The information about the Phazon Suit explains that Samus is invulnerable to "blue Phazon," specifically. In Metroid Prime 3, while I will not spoil anything in this post, does make a reference to "ultra-rare red phazite plating" on a particular enemy's armor.
