I say colored doors should work like locks.  Once you shoot a colored door with the correct beam, you should be able to use any beam to open that door.  If I opened an ice door with the ice beam once, why do I have to prove that I have the ice beam every time I want to go through that door?  It should "unlock" to the standard blue.

Still, their system of doors works well for their weapon system.  I think they split up the beams to give the player a sense of having an arsenal as opposed to just one upgraded beam, which may or may not have been a good idea for Prime.  I mean, it's worked with every Metroid game in the past.
There's a reason that the wave/ice/plasma doors don't change to blue once you open them.  I heard it from [censored] himself.  During testing they realized that player's would use the door color as location guides, because apparently the room geometry and the map -> room names weren't good enough.  If the door changed color magically, when they returned they'd be confused.  Poor players!

That... makes an awful lot of sense, actually. I didn't realise it before, but I do use the door colours to navigate, and I think that's worth the sacrifice of hiving to switch to the ice beam whenever I open a door.
just turn on the X-Ray visor, then you will always see the ghosts(Credits to GameFaqs ;) )
Not impossible
just highly unlikely

In Prime there was no real 'beam heirachy' like in Super anymore.

Though desintegrating with plasma is indeed a wonderful thing...  Laughing

These purple doors in phendrana part 2 were extremly annoying, always this switching between plasma and wave.
I don't use the doors to navigate per se. But I do use them on the map to tell me what beam I need to use next.

I would prefer the most recent beam (aka plasma) to open all doors beneath it. The hierarchy I described.

And yeah the room naming isn't up to much. I still don't know most of the names! I use stuff like - the room you get the plasma beam in Etc. to identify rooms.

You think like I do. ;)
As silly as it is I've only recently started using the radar....
Well, you should use it more often!
The only time it's useful is against jetpack pirates.
In Zero Mission once you open a red/green/yellow door it returns to blue -- yet it still shows as the original color on the overhead map/mini map in upper right.

That would be perfect for Prime
