I guess I'd hope for 1:20-1:30 before Ridley. If so it'll be my best run, but again, I'm not really going for perfection (even for my abilities.) As for the tree hall gate jump, I've got it down pretty well. It's already done and recorded, I'll post it later, but I think I got it third try. Sadly, there were several attempts that I was able to get it first try, but had some pretty bad screw ups later that I decided to toss them. Unfortunately I don't have two memory cards so I can't do the hotswap and compare times. Just gotta go with what I feel is good, or I'll end up accepting (like falling in HOTE) just because I really don't want to do it all AGAIN. I've gotta get to work, but I'm interested to see Jace's run...

WoW! Not bad! You had a great maze at the end.

I think, at this pace you should try for sub 1:20. You should have something concrete to shoot for.

Depending on how you record you can get to the end of the segment where it asks if you want to save and stop the recording, watch the segment and decide if you want to keep it before saving.

Good segment. Keep up the good stuff!
That would require editing every attempt. It would be so much easier to just remember to grab my brothers memory card next time I go see him, which is often. Yeah. That's what I'll do.

I was having a conversation with Jenkins on skype, and I thought it was relevant. Maybe one of you will find inspiration in it:

[1:39:50 AM] :11 took a long time for me to get. From watching your runs, I can tell you that it's all just a lot of minor stuff that adds up. You really just need to be more discerning on what you keep and what you don't, especially since you have been getting good times on your FIRST try. It will take years before you can expect to hit those times without any retries.

[1:45:02 AM] I don't believe in this "wall" you think you've hit either. You've already improved so much. It's now just a simple case of diminishing returns. You just aren't seeing the same leaps of improvement that you used to. Have patience, your days with Metroid are still young. I can't wait for the day that you call/skype/tell me in person that you have finally have achieved an :11.

true story.
I now have three memory cards :)
and yes, true story.
So I've been a little distracted lately. Between two jobs and starcraft 2 I just haven't found the time to play Metroid. I'm also a little stuck on the next segment because of that damn branch dash in crashed frigate. I've yet to make it even after spending an hour or so on it. I'll probably just have to do it "my way" which Caveberry posted for me here a while back and sacrifice a few seconds. Here's the next segment tho:

and here's that alternate route mentioned above. Granted, I'd dash from the branch straight to it to avoid all that pesky water:
So why didn't you use missiles on the pirate early on in the segment? using ice beam like that is a lot slower.

Yoshi is back
I can't seem to preform that. I'll see if mines PC.

Edit: Mines not PC but it's got the Demo of MP2. Can It be done on that version. (v1.1)

my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
0-01 is the same as 0-00 but has the aborentum gate blocked at the top. i think that was the only difference found.

if your disc came with the mp2 demo, it is a 0-02 release since 0-01 is a very rare print from launch days.
Yoshi is back
Well mine came with the GC. I'm Wondering if I can still Scan dash.
My Aboretum Had its gate locked before I scanned all the Lyrics.
Just check your version number: http://www.metroid2002.com/version_differences_version_number.php

If you have version 0-02, there's no scan dashing. Also, the gate will be locked... you need to bomb jump over it, which is also not possible in the 0-02 version.

Eh, I guess that is sorta my fault. Jenkinz and I play MP together most of the time, and though he had beaten the game a couple of times way back when it first came out, most what he knows about speedrunning MP came from me. (This is no discredit to him, as he is leagues beyond where I was at this point.)

I have never used missles on that pirate, because I hate ever worrying pickups. I had always figured, that I would worry about how many missiles/pickups I needed once I actually did a real run.

My bad...
Lol. I just use ice out of instinct. Something I should break, but it works so I haven't put any effort into changing it. I'll give the missiles a go next time around for sure. Sadly, I haven't had any time to play MP in a long while. Between full and part time jobs, my social life, and getting ready to move (TOMORROW!), Metroid has been left untouched. I hope that once I get somewhat settled into my new place here in the next few days I'll bust out the gamecube and practice up for my run. This next segment has haunted me with that dash jump, and the segment after that is pretty intimidating as well. Given the relaxed nature of the run so far I really shouldn't be worried about it, but I don't want it to flat out suck. I really appreciate the comments and keeping this thread alive while I'm off dicking around in real life. Promise, I'll be back soon Very Happy

Damn! Moving is hard work! I helped Jenkinz move yesterday and I am sore as F. There were entertainment centers, beds, couches, futons, tables, amps, and countless boxes. I shouldn't complain though, there was free beer involved...

I helped him set up his entertainment center though. So Jenkinz's next segment should be coming sooner rather than later. He needs to get signed up for internet at his new place though. :S Hopefully I will soon find time to re-do my own run. I've forced myself to learn a couple tricks since then so it should be good.
