I haven't played MZM for a few months now, and my normal any% time has dropped to 55.42, as opposed to 34.12...
Am I failing?
Also, on a 9% run, should ridley be very very hard (on hard mode, for a challenge!)?

Ridley cheap way is very easy even low-% hard mode.

After getting a :34:, it is quite a big drop to get a :55:. Are you trying for speed alone, or are you just testing different routes and strategies or something?

It was my first 9% run, trying to be as un-natural as possible, so that could be it...

9% != any%

I guess it's not SO bad, then. Both Ridley fights are each going to add a couple minutes, probably. Plus Zebetites, and the escapes lacking speed booster/hello jump. And generally being more careful. I can't remember my first 9% time, though it's probably in one of these topics....

Any-% speedrun is over 10 minutes faster than 9% normal mode run.

I think lowest possible 9% time with human hands can be 39.xx. I think theoretical 36-37 minutes is even possible with real time if you use emulator and save state only. But nobody don,t can skip all save and get perfect fights on console. Because 9% is very random factor run.

Your 41.35 (that was the time, right?) is already so freakin' good that I hope you understand what you're talking about. In my opinion, we will never ever ever see a 36 min 9% run, unless it's a TAS. Not talking about the fact that no one has even gone under sub 40. I sure think that the ultimate 9% run would probably be a very high 38. I just could almost bet my both hands that you can't go under that.

You're like talking about going under 26 in any%.

Yeah i am sure, we never see 36 minutes 9% time. It is only theoretical possible time with real time, just like sub 27-26 minutes is definitely possible any-% with real time, but nobody never can beat that as fast. Spidey Widey get 28.04 any-% and he said 27 is very possible and 26 minutes can be even possible.

Yeah My 9% run was very good. Still many spots can be faster here, if you are very patient:

-First segment can be 20-25 seconds faster.
-Imago cocoon at least 5 seconds faster
-Ridley can be 5-10 seconds faster
-Kraid lair segment 10-15 seconds faster
-Tourian second halfway at least 10 seconds faster
-Barrier part, can be done even 20 seconds faster if you skip at least one more save.
-Mother brain. What MR.X said it can be 30-40 seconds faster
-Suitless samus can be done at least 6 seconds faster (if you skip that middle save)
-Robot Ridley can be at least 5 seconds faster and escape too 5 seconds because i don,t get max possible risk against Black pirates.
+I use 14-15 save. But you need savepoints, because this run is very random factor.
