Turned out great for the company, but it's effect on existing gamers is debatable.  The DS is innovative, too.  Dual touch screens - a completely different direction than the competition.  They just don't think like the other guys.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
You can't just slap on a new gimmick and call it innovative. You have to actually do something with it to prove it. It certainly offered different options but didn't come close to changing how I think about games.

Well aside from making me not really want to play a lot of them.
Using motion as input instead of pushing buttons didn't make you think differently about gaming?  Funny, it did for just about everyone else.  That's the whole reason it was so successful - it was fresh.
I bet you're real popular in a think-tank environment.

True.  I don't think it's the greatest thing that ever happened to gaming based on my own personal tastes, but any idea that takes a company from last place to first place by a mile, expands it's customer base tenfold, and causes the competition to scramble to come up with imitations can't possibly be lacking in the innovation department.
I admire the genius of it from a business standpoint more than I admire it for what it actually is.

yeah i admire the company for that too

Does making my think about how much better the game would be if it used buttons that did what they were supposed to do every time instead of gestures that worked about 50% of the time count?

frankly my favorite controller this gen is the dualshock 3

it's nice having a bit of motion control in certain games where needed but you always have real buttons too
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I mean it's nice of them to try but it needs to go away now.

the uncharted games were cool, you could tilt the controller back to jump backward off a ledge

it's a little slower than using the buttons but it's very satisfying to do and i did it every time

the only time i really hated motions contros were while i was playing de blob, and they maped the jump to swing up in the remote

god that was atrocious...
aside from that, most motion controlled games i played was great...

you only hate motions controls if everything you played on the wii was shovelware, but then again, if the only things you played were shovelware, your opinion kinda sucks.

If motion controls had been the standard input since gaming's inception, and suddenly someone made a console that only used a button controller for input, would you call the games for that system shovelware?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
If the controls were as bad as they are now I'd probably not even care about video games at all. But the button console would be the best by default since people could make games with competent control schemes.

I thought this was pretty funny, considering recent subject matter.

Disappointed they didn't make a joke at the end about buying DLC for Frozen Synapse. But still, that was good.
