Almost happy
There where a general discussion thread for TASes a while back, though it has been inactive for long. But I think it should better be used for this, so here it is.

Also, the only general advice I can really give you here is to use more savestates and rerecords to remove your mistakes. A lot more. And you need to look out for stuff like accidentaly letting go of the forward button for a frame, which it looks like you did multiple times. Basically monitor everything more closely and carefully.
By the looks of it, it seems like your TASing for the first time with the keyboard, uh?

Keep in mind to arm-pump always, except when running down slopes.
Use savestates and rerecords more as Cpadolf said.

And also, remember to customize the setup order of your hotkeys (frame pause, advance frame%, slow-down frame% and when recording toggle the movie frame count for obvious reasons) that best suits you.
If I were you, I would use my gaming controller rather than keyboard for TAS.

Thanks for the advice, Yeah I have noticed quite a few mistakes, but I am planning on just getting through the game once before improving at much. And what gaming controller should I use? (I'm stuck with the keyboard.)
Almost happy
I'm biased towards actually using a keyboard, I've always found it more natural when TASing, and you still have to use the keyboard for savestates anyway.

I recommend that you use ps2/ps3 style usb gaming controller.

To me, I don't think so. I find that ps2 style gaming controller is much easier to use, plus, it has extra buttons for savestates.
I'm much more comfortable with a controller as well. It's pretty easy to combine it with the keyboard using the pinkies for savestate and frame advance stuff.
I always TAS using a keyboad, it's more confortable for the savestates ;)

Heres part 3:

Epic failure at trying to skip the bomb torizo...  Embarassed

Part 4:

Another epic failure at Kraid quick kill.  Evil or Very Mad

Part 5:

Just a lot a of generic mistakes. Confused

Part 6:

More mistakes, I think I am getting a hang of this though.
I headbang in 13/8.
I won't pretend to have a lot of experience in this field, but I'd say the beauty of a TAS is that if there's a mistake you're unhappy with, you can go back and fix it. Instead of drawing undue attention to a mistake by complaining, just a) deal with it or b) fix it. But like I said, I'm no expert.
What'd you say?
Thanks for the advice, but I just wanted to point those out so I can come back later and just redo it, as I said this is just my first run though and I'm not doing any rerecords (unless there is a major mistake taking way to much time up, this however does not include boss strategies.) But when I come back for this the second time around I will try to refine this as much as possible.
Almost happy
No rerecords? If you choose one or the other, rerecords is a million times better than frame advance... I get that you just don't want to spend a lot of time removing all mistakes everywhere, but absolute precision really looses its point if you don't know exactly what to do in advance (knowledge you get from testing over and over in advance through rerecording).
What'd you say?
Well, what I wanted to do is just do a base run to learn how to use frameadvance effectively and so the next time I do a run I will see major improvements which will hopefully make me want to do more runs in the future; this might not make much sence to you guys but I thought it was the best thing I could do to get into TASing.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I think the main differene is that if you're just using frame advance, then you're essentially just playing in slow motion, so you may as well just reduce the speed, but if you're going for true 'tool-assisted', then you should be rerecording regularly.  Very regularly.
What'd you say?
I'm just doing this to get used to using framadvance; after I finish this run I will use a lot more rerecords.
