I like the Nova beam the most, i just like its Sound FX and its green color.

I like the regular power beam the best. Hyper mode is stupidly broken. The plasma/nova beams are practically the same thing. MP3 has the worst beam set in the series.

I agree. Power beam be the best. I think they intended for switching between the beams, because your arm cannon changes shape. i find this to be a bit of an unneccesary feature because it is your standard beam. in MP1/2 changing the shape of your cannon signified the act that you were moving out of 'standard' territory, whereas in MP3 your gun changes even though it is in its' 'standard' mode.

Doesn't Nova Beam just shoot through certain things? I was under the impression that it was more Wave Beam with a bit of old school Plasma Beam thrown in rather than something entirely new.

I think the only truly new beam Retro came up with was the Annihilator, and that thing was pretty terrible.

Yeah it just shoots through things, but really with the Nova beam you are forgetting about the X-Ray visor combo that lets you target internal organs. That makes a big difference.

I don't really remember a Dark / Light beam in any other game.

No, light is shaped like wave/nova. Annihilator is shaped like plasma.

Yeah, sorry for the confusion. My favorite beam in this game has to be the hyper beam because of the gatling gun effect of the charge shot, but it is way too overpowered.

I really liked annihilator. The auto-homing shots were very useful. The rate of fire was good too. It was pretty weak for something called 'annihilator' though.

Power Beam easily for me. I have not liked any beams in the 3D games except power beam. 2D games were much better to the beams I think.

I liked the Light/Dark Beams too, as well as Plasma from Super. It was kinda neat to see the same zigzag beam all around that game (from the Pirates). Sorta brought the design together.

i didn't like any beam from this game much but if i had to pick one, it would be hyper beam.

For some reason, I like plasma beam the best (exclude the hyper beam). It just that I like it's sound of it.

Same here, though I was dissapointed about Nova only going through Phazite instead of just about anything like Super and Fusion's.

I just recently got the Nova beam, and it doesnt seem like its that much more powerful then the plasma beam (besides targeting hotspots with the xray visor). Like it doesn't seem like it takes less hits to kill baddies with the nove beam overall..

yep, that's something i noticed. almost no power increase. also, the fact you can kill anything much faster with the hyper bean weakens its usefulness even more.

It's very useful with the X-Ray combo, though. Feels great to lock on to a swarm of Phazon Metroids and kill them with one hit. extra_smug
