At around 4am I decided to start mucking around with Super Metroid using Cheat Engine.

After constantly reloading savestates and multiple searches, I eventually found the address which controls the door in the bomb Torizo room.

After freezing the address, I was able to collect the bombs and muck around in the room for a while before leaving.

I found that after collecting the bombs, even if I were to unfreeze the address, the Torizo would stay seated.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
What is the purpose of doing so, though?  Or am I just missing it in the video? Eh?
My keyboard doesn't support pressing some combinations of buttons at once, I can't even run and jump at the same time.

Also, this avoids having the need to make an effort to get out before the Torizo awakens lol

Also, I'm just doing another method of getting out of the room.
...
For a long time, many people have searched for a way to skip the Bomb Torizo.  It is possible in PAL(lucky them), but for most of us, the trick is impossible.  This looks like an interesting way to skip it.  However, wouldn't this be more appropriate on the Hacks and Fangames board?

Isn't that just for actual mods done to the game, with SMILE or whatever else.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
You are correct, this actually involves Super Metroid so it's fine where it is.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
My point was aimed more at its validity, since freezing the door's 'open' memory address would be akin to cheating, wouldn't it?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I don't think anyone is pretending it isn't cheating.
I guess it could be housed in either thread.

Anyway, busy playing with super missiles. I've freezed the amount shown on screen so I can shoot them out faster. The strange thing is, every now and then, one explodes as it gets fired out. -.-
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
Well, the address was already know source. I'm presuming the cheat was 7EDE6A01 or higher

This was done using Cheat Engine, the address I had to freeze was 0159A9CC

Edit:
After closing Snes9xa and opening it again, all the addresses changed.

All of the addresses followed the same value difference in address though.

Health
0159a9ea became 0159e9ca

Missiles
0159a9ee became 0159e9ce

That's a difference of 3FE0.

Also, out of curiosity, I changed the value to that which would cause the Torizo to awaken (if I had picked up the bomb) before I picked the bomb.

The results were a little weird.

Super missiles are actually two projectiles, not one. They start to act funny when one super missile picks up the other half of another super missile.
Also, the whole reason there are two projectiles to begin with (better collision detection) doesn't work because the main super missile isn't actually stopped when the second one detects a wall the front super missed.

Also uh. emulator cheats (or specifically PAR codes) are easier, more reliable and versatile, and also very well known.

is this the reason for green gate glitch ?

The problem concerning Bomb Torizo isn't that people aren't cheating enough. It's just that, in NTSC, you have to be perfect for every frame to do it legitimately. The people here that do cheat go all out to do so, and analyze the living crap out of the ROM. the people here that just try to get through the game really don't have any use for cheats. Escaping the Bomb Chorizo is simply either possible in real time on PAL, possible in a tool-assisted run on NTSC, or more recently it's less surprising for it to be manageable in a hack. This kind of thing might be a neat detail that makes a hack fun, but it doesn't make much sense to do in the real game.

Basically, that video doesn't have you "escaping" bomb torizo at all, since there's no danger of getting caught anymore. It's as if you're chillin' on a park bench and suddenly you decide to try to escape the tree. On the other hand, my thumb has a hangnail. :^(

Ha ha, Chorizo. laugh new

I am sure there would be more beneficial options for this sort of cheat, such as the imfamous green gate ino Maridia.  Finding the cheat to have that stay open instead would be far more beneficial, but would still be cheating, so I'm not sure of its purpose either.

Using this new dicovery known as 'pointless cheating', people will be able to make faster speedruns, and submit them to SDA.
Or mabye they will be classed as TASs.
Now sub 0:01 is finally possible.  laugh new

I have an even better idea: let's not.
What'd you say?

Yeah, that wouldn't fly with them. Even if someone was to do that wouldn't it be considered cheating?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Whether it is or is not considered cheating is sort of irrelevant, as they only allow glitching and the like if it can be reproduced during human play.  Any form of device, such as Action Replays would automatically get the run refused.
