Using the Norfair shaft, I entered Ridley's Lair before beating Kraid.  Now I'm having a great amount of difficulty killing the bug due to my lack of equipment.  Does anyone have any suggestions for killing it? Or, barring that, how to escape and come back later with more Energy Tanks and Missiles?

You can actually skip the bug completely if you get the high jump and speed booster.  You can get the super missile in Brinstar that's to the left of the main shaft by doing the ball jump shinespark from the room to the right.

Duck in the bottom left corner (at the lowest point on the ground), face left, and shoot really fast.

You should kill the stingers the bee shoots when it is coming from the left side to get Missile/Energy refills.

That was from a tidbit of the 15% movie, I need to watch it all. >.>

I'm beginning to think that defeating Ridley with what little life I have is more a matter of luck than skill.
