I know there is a topic about a TAS on early items in Metroid Fusion. I do not feel like downloading an emulator to watch it, so what exactly happens in that TAS?
Thread title:
You shouldn't have to download an emulator to watch some videos since the only ones I have ever seen on this subject are in a normal video format.

Basically what happens is: nothing.  I believe Fusion is programmed in a way that doesn't allow you to get an item early. For example, if you DID pick up an early PB tank, it wouldn't give you the ability to use PB's until you got the intended first PB tank.

You've not played Fusion in a while, have you Opium.  All the expansions you get do increase your maximum of that ammo, however you don't get to use them until you download them.

Fixed.

I play it often, just never tried to get an early item since it's kinda pointless.

I don't know how to open .vbm with Visual Boy Advance.
Tools>Play>Start playing movie...
Press OK, then open up the file.

Thank you.

Any ideas on why Samus just idles under her ship?
opium: it's a run i made. i never bothered encoding it.

basically i get almost every expansion as soon as possible. iirc i get five early power bomb tanks. the movie probably desynced, make sure you download the latest version of vba here. also make sure you have a good copy of the rom.
I suppose there is no chance you could encode it? I badly want to watch this video, even if you just record your screen with hypercam I'd be content.
i'll see what i can do.
Any update on this?
nope. surely you can figure out how to play the vbm file.

The run stops at getting the Space Jump?

Also PJ, sort that playlist man! it plays backwards.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
The run probably stops there because it's just a display of all of the items you can get early.  Everything is probably normal.

Well I meant, at the point you get the Space Jump is the point you can get every item?

Or at that point, there are no more items you can get without getting the next plot driven powerup?

No, it's a specific run deliberately showing all of the items that can be collected 'early'.  It's just the way the game is designed.  I believe you can get them early, but you can't use any of them until you actually unlock the ability in its normal sequence of events, so although it helps toward you collection percentage, it doesn't help your run item-wise.  That's how I read it anyway...

You'll see two minutes into video 2 that he collects Power Bombs, but has no icon at the top of the screen, so he can't use them.

Edit: Having watched it all, I kind of agree with you.  Even though it appears to start as the run I described, it does seem odd to just stop there. Think
I didn't know about the trick to fight the spider. I really didn't, LOL. That was amazing. What exactly did he do?

That's why more and more I'm starting to believe that he's gotten everything possible up to that point AND everything after that is specifically locked behind the next plot driven power up.

For example, say a power up is behind a wave beam door, and you can't get to the item from the opposite side. This is a power up that requires the next Plot Driven power up to get, and thus cannot be gotten early.

I think that at the point he's gotten the space jump, there are only power ups like my example left.

I did, but it doesn't seem to have affected the playlist at all, or it just needs time to push the change in effect

As for why the movie stopped at Yakuza, see here

Thanks, P.J.  That makes sense.

ah... Maybe.

But he didn't get the powerup.

Bah... sucks it kept glitching. :(
yeah, i don't think there were many early expansions after that, if any at all. iirc i already had 230 missiles so i can't imagine there being much left.
