Until now I dont think nicovideo allowed people to view vids without an account but this seems to have been changed so I'm able to link to this:

http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm3764398

It's an approx. 5 minute vid of an upcoming hack from the guy who made Seabed/Sevenstar/etc

No idea when this'll be out but the vid will give you an idea of what this hack will look like. It's worth noting that there are new graphics in places and it doesn't look quite as sloppy as some of his old stuff. The physics look insane though.

Looks interesting, but no more interesting than 7 star with it's irritating physics.  It's clear his 'influence' from Dmantra & Archeron have persisted.

This is a good example of how someone can really utilize all the different SMILE tools at his disposal... and not really excel at any of them.  Rolling Eyes

I think this guy has potential if he'd really stop churning out halfhacks and buckle down for a real project. Oh well.
Almost happy
I think those physics would be very interesting for a TAS (abusing fast movement with spinjumps and so forth), for real play though, unfortunately, while they still are somewhat interesting in the end they only tend to annoy you (like significantly reducing the margin of error in walljumps etc).

The thing I really don't care for about those physics is the weird burst of forward momentum during a spin jump.  The extra gravity is kind of nice, reminds me of RD.  Overall his hacks are pretty good, its just the lack of polish that has you frustrated.  7 star is glitchy as hell, but this guy definitely supplies what bad hacks are lacking: surprises.

What has me frustrated is that I can still tell what rooms the rooms he's now in USED to be in the old SM. That goes beyond lack of polish and puts it square into half-hack territory. I'm annoyed that he's capable of so much but keeps churning out average-level hacks. Call it personal preference.

I can agree there.
Also funny how he makes an elevator glitch look like a feature

Wish we could give him some feedback.  Anyone speak Japanese?

This actually looks pretty good, and it's hard to disguise elevator rooms, Acheron ;). I've always been a fan of this guy, though I too hate the Kamikaze Spinjump of Doom.
Also, IIRC, Seabed was a beta which was never finished.

Actually, elevator rooms can be resized or moved just like any other rooms, you just have to change the X/Y value of the other side of the elevator. So he could easily turn that vertical shaft into a horizontal one if he wanted. Anyway, it's just my opinion, I'd like to see everyone and their mom make fullhacks so...

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
Quite a step up from his previous hacks. I'd say hes heading in the right direction with this.
Not fond of the physics, never have been. Nice to see some new gfx and better statues,
although I've never liked new doors, the original doors are a trademark thing to metroid,
just like the glowing orbs and sitting chozo. Do not touch.
The doors do kinda bother me. Redesign also changed the doors but it wasn't such a drastic change. Also you can notice there's a graphical error when he falls into Crocomire's room, although perhaps that's because he hasn't worked enough on the floor/ceiling vers of the doors yet.

There's a lot more rooms where you can tell what they used to be than the elevator rooms though. But you can't always blame people for this since they may not want to horizontally expand given what it does to the room if they dont have sufficient knowledge of SMILE (i.e. they dont know that that effect isn't some kind of a SMILE error; it's just the tile formations currently there being applied to a wider room). The Japanese do have their own SMILE FAQ though, so I wouldn't think this guy would be unaware of this. He may just be a little lazy =3

I could tell which rooms from the original SM DMantra used in Cliffhanger, but it still turned into an awesome hack, and you agreed. But yeah this hack looks kinda bleh.

Actually Dmantra and I had talked about that some. Cliffhanger was Dmantra's first hack and you can sort of see how he was becoming better at using the tools in SMILE as it came along. Besides, Cliffhanger quickly deviates from that formula into something very different than anything we've seen.

This is the Seabed guy's third hack and I'm still not seeing a real departure (although it's still better than his earlier hacks I suppose). In my mind halfhacks are starting points that can help a hacker learn to use the tools and decide if he wants to keep going in the hacking direction (METROID SHADOWS LOL). Beyond that I'd rather see one great project than three shitty ones.

Of course that's a big reason why Aegis is still a WIP... I could've released a mediocre hack by now but I'm going to be patient and take my time with it until it's really refined. I think this guy would profit from a similar mentality (make one hack great instead of churning out average ones). Anyway I think I'm beating the dead horse now.
