Almost happy
I have tried for that trick some to, but never gotten it to work, though IIRC I came close a couple of times so it might be possible.

EDIT: It seems to be impossible, the closest I got was with a Super actually (sparking at the exact same frame makes it hit the door) but it was still 3-5 frames away from working.
I tested that trick in a few different rooms for a few hours using possibly every single technique with both missiles and super missiles.  (shoot on frame x, wait x frames, jump on frame x/shoot on frame x, walljump until frame x, spark on frame x, and many others)

No matter what I did, I was always 1-2 frames away from entering the door.  I just don't think its possible.  (I think Samus' speed is greater when sparking vertically than horizontally.)
Almost happy
The problem with the trick is that even if you manage to hit the door as far away from it as you theoretically can be you have already gained to much speed for the door to open in time. (I am 99% sure that this aplies to long horizontal sparks to) For the trick to work there has to be a shorter distance to spark.
If TASers can't make it with frame advance even with the overall skills which TASers posses in what they do these days, I really do not think this trick should be applied to any console runs.
Ok I've read the rules regarding bumping topics but this isn't a bump really at all as I feel this is a nesassary post. So I should be in the clear here as far as what's stated in the rules are concerned. I absolutely wouldn't do it otherwise.

To awnser the question of the topic title: Yes, 47 on the escape is possible, because I just did it. I'm making an any% TAS (NTSC) played in real time that will use all the up to date tricks and best boss patterns and quick kills and so fourth. I've just finished the ceres segment. I only had savestates in door transitions but I had the fucking craziest luck with steam that there was practically none in my path, every room. I tile came down in the perfect spot to damage boost from. all ledges were ledges grabbed very well. Arm pumping didn't even need to be crazy fast. It was all done in realtime but if you watch it it looks very TAS like which I guess is just the result of getting 47 in itself. Whether this is possible on console is extremly unlikely due to luck with steam. But I didn't manipulate steam on the emulator because I don't know how to. Just saved it in the door. The same luck could happen on console. But maybe once in 5000 attempts lol, and you'd need tt take the same path through the rooms in the hope that 1. the steam is out your way for the steps room and 2. the tile is perfectly placed for a good damage boost. The hardest room by far was the last room. I really needed to push my ledge grabbing skills to my limit to get the time of 47:01.

Of course it's possible with save states. I was only half a second away on console. >_>

If we're talking about tool assists, then you may as well go the whole hog, and just take the 49. Wink
It wasn't "tool assisted" though. If it was I would slow the game down. manipulate steam (if I knew how), frame advance... the lot. As I said I had LUCK with my TAS When I started. That luck could happen on console. Unlikely but could happen.

The point I was making is that with just exellent human execution and that route through the rooms a 47 is doable. You just need luck with steam and tiles. Just cleans up the question that whether 47 is possible unassisted.

The steam / tiles are like Phantoon, I believe, in that their positions are generated depending upon the frame you enter the room.
I thought as much. I've also heard something about shooting into door transitions too.

Btw if something is possible with just savestates, it's possible on console too.

Same for slowdown though. It doesn't tell you if a human will ever do it.

My name is 4N6/Forensics.
I think 47 is possible but, I would settle with a 46 because honestly Ceres is not really all that important. 45 is only acceptable for me in a Single Segment. I was kind of thinking about trying an Any% lately. I would try for 30 in a Single Segment if I attempt it. Maybe I'll do it after my 100% run. Then I probably move on to Single Segment 100%.
Slowdown enhances performance, savestates don't. All savestates do is provide restbite between things you find difficult. There's nothing to say a human being can't work on those things they find difficult and then link them all together by dropping savestates or just playing on console. Coping with the pressure of doing difficult things over a long period of time. Something I need to work on of late.

No don't anybody bother with trying to get 47 anytime. Although I do regard it of sorts as the holy grail for unassisted ceres escape time for NTSC. Just for bragging rights of course.

I suspect that while we always try to get the best time we can, a 47 is just gonna be some random, lucky run by anybody who just happens to be running it, rather than a serious attempt.  That's just the way it goes sometimes.
Respite: lol, one of those words I've never really used before but heard it many times and never bothered to find out how it's spelt.
