almost a new WR there. you should definitely record the next time if you have the equipment (or you should get the equipment)

it's been so long since the last Fusion run was made. now i'm looking forward to a new SS any% along the promised new low% that is being made.

any place where you made a mistake you could fix easily in a new run?

At :51, it's hard to tell if you can shave much time on any one thing. Sounds to me, though, like he could spare grabbing a couple tanks.

So has anyone bothered to try a 1%multi-segmented run? Or do the top runners still think they can some day achieve a 0% console run?

Well dunno about that 1% multi-segmented, but I can these days skip the bob pretty consistanly...  aiwebs_008

...not
Yeah I am usually getting 7% in my runs, but this time I really was afraid to die. I detected just yesterday (in this thread) how to create a File beginning with 0:00 so I really didn´t want to risk to die because of a stupid mistake in the fight with the Omega-Metroid ;)

I thought about it, I could probably make a really cool one, but I still think low% is too similar to any%. If some people really want one I could make one.

Secretkey: If you plan on recording a run, you'd better not get used to playing fusion on your ds. For recording, you'll need a dvd recorder, a gamecube, a gameboy player, and the thing that hooks your gamecube and gba together (dunno what exactly it is called, but it only hooks up to a gba or sp, which is why you can't use your ds).
Hm, that's bad.
I have a Cube, this thing to connect the GBA with the Gamecube and I asked a friend to borrow me his GBA Player. Unfortunatly the d-pad of my old GBA does not react (well perhaps if you use a hammer....) but this is not a problem, cause I know enough friends, I could ask for a GBA SP.

So, the point is: I really got used to the DS. I'm playing Fusion and Zero Mission for about years on the DS, because of the problems with my GBA. But, well I think I could deal with this situation. Maybe two runs for practice and it should be all right.... but:

I don't posess a DVD-Recorder... Is there an alternitive?

By the way: Today I' ll try to improve my 100% Run. I'll tell you the result probably tomorrow.
vhs is accepted until 1 january 2008.

don't forget to set the game boy player to the smaller screen size and "sharp" filter and black border.
Yeah, my 100 % run results:

1:15 and the Item rate -needless to say- 100 %
I am very pleased with this time :)

@nate:
Thanks for these tips
I hope my class mate won't forget to bring the GBA SP and his GB Player to school. The afternoon I will try to find out, how to record with our video-tape-recorder. But don't expect a real run the  next
days. I don't even know wether I'll be able to run with the GBA SP instead of using my DS ;-)

Does this mean I have to get back into Fusion to try to beat my 1:19 100% (segmented)? >_<
Yeah, you probably have to ;-)

Well, of course not. But this run was really fun. It is very satisfying to see the things come to and end ( in a good time ). If you are motivated enough you surley could improve your run.

Okay, I have a GBA SP at home now (man, this d-pad is so small ...) and a GBA- Player but I have no idea, how to activate this thing.
Please do not tell me, I need a particular GC Disc for it, which my friend of course forgot to give me...  :|  Well, i guess I'll just use this weekend to get used to the GBA SP
unfortunately yes, you need the gamecube disc. it says "game boy player" on it.
So what runs are you going to do if you get this working? The runs I'm planning on doing are 1% SS, any% segmented, and 100% SS.
Well, I would do a any% SS. But if I'll finish and I'll be content with my time I would maybe start a segmented any% run. But first I'll have to concentrate on the SS- run of course.
Yikes. Competition. :P

Although I don't think you would be crazy enough to do a 1% SS, especially aiming for a time of :53 :o

Good luck.
Ehm... no not really. I even do not dare to try a low% SS run (thank you Nightmare my friend :D ). If you really record this run, you'll have my full respect  Exclamation

But a SS 100% run sounds very interesting, cause I never have done this before.
Ok, I'll try this after I recorded the any% SS to compare our times later :D

So I also wish you good luck!
My first 7% run: 1h 15 min.

I think the time is like 16 minutes worse than expected, but in the other hand I doubt anyone gets sub 1:00 first speedrun. The time sucks, I'll start working on improvement. Maybe after sub 1:00 time I'll try 1% and some other nice stuff. :P

EDIT:
Started a new run. Sector 2 beginning, 8 min.
You must be kidding! 1:15 for the first speed run is a very good time. Keep it up !

Now about my own run:
I was extreme unlucky. I played in the night and had a nearly perfect run with only 3 eye door shots, a perfect Serris fight and overall very few mistakes, which are not worth to mention.
I was exited about my time....
But as I meantioned before I played Fusion in the night and then at the Yakuza Fight I heard my father saying something and in panic, he could have heard me playing I wanted quickly to turn down the sound, but instead I accidently powered down the GBA SP -.-

But there are also some good news:
I finaly got the GBP Disc.
One question: Did you also find the speed kind of slower? I think that all the runs you guys recorded are much smoother...

Okay, I have some more questions: Do you think I should get all theses missle expansions:

The two before arachnus
the one before SRX
unskippable in PYR
Habitation Deck
the one before the elevators ( I call it the SA-X Area ;-) )

with 3 ET I'll have 9 % at the end.

So theoretically I could start this weekend to record some attempts, but I have some problems with our VCR. I simply cannot record things. Well I did record a part of a TV Show but only once and now I have idea, how the hell I did that. Why it has to be so complecated? I just want to push the record button... but I have to choose some channels or.. I don't know

I guess, I have to search for the instruction manual....
Well I'm currently leading my 1:15 time by only annoying 2 minutes, I have to do something about that. *coughcoughbefastercough*

2 before Archanus? If you get only 1 missile pack before Archanus you have 15 missiles, and if you're lucky and get to pump them all before his ball attack it's the quickets kill you can get, but you'd have to get some green X to shoot the core.

Don't mind if something I said is totally wrong, I'm kinda new to the game.  Rolling Eyes

Playing this game has made me think about Biosparks 1% SS time. He's really going to beat the Nightmare without any energy tanks and only 15 missiles without dying or saving? Crazy ass mofo.  grin new

the one before SRX <-- No
unskippable in PYR <-- Off Course!
Habitation Deck <-- Eh...I dunno...if you must.
the one before the elevators ( I call it the SA-X Area ;-) ) <-- Huh? Sorry, my memory's a bit foggy.

with 3 ET I'll have 9 % at the end. <-- I can only think of 2 off the top of my head. Is the third one really close to the main path?

You should also note that I'm all for 1%ing it, but I understand that it's too hard to single segment 1%. I'm a bit biased to missile tanks.
BioSpark breaks it down:

First, here's an old post of mine:
Quote from BioSpark:
About the optimal %, extra missle tanks are still worth getting because of the time saved on Nightmare, Yakuza, Nettori, and others. To me, extra energy tanks arent neccessary because in every situation where taking damage will save time will never take away more than 99 health.

For the percent, I would say 5 or 6% would be minimum, any lower and some bosses are harder, and any higher, the boss fights might get a bit easier (not neccessarlily save time though) but you would waste some time picking up the extra missles.

If I were to do an any% run, I would most likely pick up 5 missle tanks including bob, making my percent 5.

Now, this post is talking about what I would do for a segmented run, but I would probably also use the same strategy for a SS. I suggest you pick up as few energy tanks as possible; try aiming for just one.

Now, as for the missile tanks, here are the ones I suggest:
  1. bob (unskippable in PYR)
  2. one before arachnus
  3. other one before arachnus
  4. habitation deck
  5. speedboost on main deck (by elevator)
  6. (optional) morphball tunnel on main deck

After looking at your post again, it seems like these are the ones you were going to get. :)

Exactly. Actually, Nightmare is one of my least worries. I really should try and work on that or at least get something recorded.
Yeah I understand
Hm, the real problem is nettorie, cause I won't use the magic spot. I pull this off very rarely, so there is no reason to try it in the SS run. The consequence: I need missiles. I think it would be the best to skip that one before SXR. So I'll have 35 missiles in the nettorie fight. Actually I can't think of less, if you want to kill him fast.

Btw: The missile expansion I mean is behind the wall, the SA-X blew up in the first sequence you see it.

Oh and the three energy-tanks:
1. before Arachnus
2. NOC before SA-X
3. before Yakuza-Fight

edit: thanks BioSpark. I think I'll jump over the ET near Yakuza
You guys are too good. :-s I'm still trying to beat my crappy 1:15 time, 24 min before mega-x at the moment. 4 shot kill will probably save some time.

I would actually be very inspired to do a SS run about this game, but because I'm not all familiar with the route and I would 99% possibly die I'm not trying that any time soon.

Secretkey and BioSpark:
go go go! I hope you get something recorded. :)

You know about this spot, right?

Nettori takes 50 hits if you're using just missiles, so you'll want to use powerbombs every time they finish going off. Powerbombs do a bit more damage than missiles so you'll want to use them. You only have 35 missiles, so you'll also want to use your charge beam for a bit in the beginning. Just alternate between beam and missiles for the first phase and you should be good.

Quote from Secretkey:

That's actually a good idea, because then for the NOC energy tank you can get it while you're waiting for the bomb to go off. Just make sure the bomb is a bit to the left or else it will hit you up in the air after getting the energy tank.
Thank you so much. This would probably be the part of the game, which is not fun to watch, since I am doing all these mistakes. I think I should do a SS run and save before this fight to practise how to combine charged shots, missiles and PB as you explained.

Btw do you use the secret magic spot in SS runs?
Which secret spot, the corner of the platform or the spot right in front of nettori?
