I am not sure if this would be the right place to put this, but i am new to hex editing and this forum so... i recently found out that when you use a codebreaker, true 'runners call you a fake, but if you spend long hours modifying the ROM with an editor, they label it utilizing your resources. I call it exploiting hidden knowledge, but i cant understand how to do it. I followed ALL the directions on eHow to a dotted T and a crossed I, and it still did not a thing. If anyone could possibly have mercy on me, then let it be. If not i will be forced to resort to game genie BLECH!!

Not sure whether you're talking about speedrunning or modifying things here.  If you're speedrunning, then you need to keep things legit.  Opening any game in an editor to better understand how things work is perfectly fine, and is regularly used nowadays.  In particular, TASers working hand-in-hand with proper speedrunners is very common.  If you want to speedrun, do your research, and practice, practice, practice.  If you want to modfy things or cheat, then do it for fun, and share if you like, but don't expect it to be accepted by those serious about running.

Also, if you want help with something specific, then you'll have to be much more specific with your question.

alright, i am just jimmying with the lives and missiles count, not speedrunning, and ive messed with every hexedecimal units assigned to the number of lives and missiles i can have. And nothing has happened. HELP!
are you using vba? make sure you're putting in the right info for the memory address (signed/unsigned, 1/2/4 bytes). also, missiles and health probably have two memory addresses for each one: one for how much you currently have and one for the maximum capacity.

thank you very much biospark. next question: know of any website that give good text tutorials on how to hex edit ROMs?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
You could do a lot worse than starting with the aptly named romhacking.net. Wink

It looks like what you're looking for is actually how to find which bytes to edit, which will take some reading.  Once you've got it, actual hex editing is nothing, as you just type straight over the existing bytes.  You'll also find that finding these things will fall into two categories: Some will be things that are similar across many games, but most will be game specific.  You may be better off looking at one game in particular to start with, and progressing from there.

and to especify, i am using some emulator that is simply called "Gameboy." I will have to do some intricate looking to find out if there is any other extensive name for it. Clarity is always good, i mean, ya know.
