i mean ice spreader is useful against prime, and buster is good vs meta-ridley but that's literally the only reason to ever use them (and flamethrower is completely useless)

suppose that's my real complaint, they didn't give you enough good uses for the beam combos
Nah wavebuster's amazing on wavetroopers and metroid prime as well. But yeah flamethrower is roflmao

at least they're better than mp2 beam combos! Even though there's a use for sunburst in a 100% speedrun now

wait is there really? haha

yeah the ones in echoes were totally useless, but at least they looked cool !

I'm fine with it considering it helps balance the beams, because dark/light beam are really powerful, and annihilator even moreso, where annihilator's only weakness is that it drains your ammo. What I dislike about it is that the game gives you light/dark beam so early, and you don't exactly get "more powerful" in terms of weaponry until annihilator, aside from getting beam ammo. But I can see why people dislike it :P

it doesn't help balance them though, because the game ALWAYS give you plenty of ammo for all your beams. so it's the exact same as if there weren't an ammo system at all, except now you have to be annoyed and go hunt for refills instead of progressing through the game
red chamber dream
if the game actually restricted the ammo it gives it would have been a cool system

but of course retro fucked it up like they do with everything >_>

Yes, you've made a point to make that abundantly clear.

Yeah it would've been better balanced if the game didn't give you so much ammo if you're low, effectively making it sorta pointless. It does play a significant role in boss fights though :P

lol, you think? :P

true about the boss fights, i guess that's a good point

i don't think it's worth making the rest of the game a slog though
It's pretty damn obnoxious to have a single person (in the Metroid boards at least) treat it like a chat room and take up at least a third of the posts in every topic they participate in. Sorry.

Hm. It's a common complaint for first playthroughs since a lot of people play really really conservatively, meaning basically every enemy took a while to kill via power beam / missiles. I do think mp2 is a game that gets better when you play it more and know how to use your ammo more wisely though, since enemies go down much more quickly with proper dark/light beam use.

Though honestly, playing mp2 w/o using dark/light isn't close to as terrible as playing mp3 w/o hyper mode :P That's a mechanic that's way way worse than the ammo system lmao

yeah i know. when everyone does it, it's not a big deal though. seems like yall just haven't embraced the magic of conversation yet. ;)

you could turn on chat mode if you want. i'm not changing my behavior, sorry.

and complaining about it will just make me do it more lol

yall have had since 2009 to adjust to tf, sorry if you haven't learned by now

heh i loved it during my first playthrough because it made all the boring parts (i.e. fighting enemies) go by fast. but from a game design perspective i can definitely see the problems lol

Yeah the problem was that combat became stupidly trivial without hyper mode, but really really really tedious without it. You're basically guaranteed to get tons of health in mp3 from enemies you kill AND you're invincible in hypermode.
red chamber dream
that's interesting, maybe i'll try my next playthrough without hyper mode.

i like how i said "first playthrough" when it was my only playthrough of corruption lol ... that game seems like it would be hard to stomach again but i dunno. i remember having a more positive impression of it vs echoes after finishing

I've had this discussion in my chat before, but most people agree that echoes is a lot more fun as you play it more, since you understand the mechanics better, know the map better, and that enhances the experience with later playthroughs. Corruption, on the other hand, plays worse with later playthroughs because the flaws become a lot more noticeable after the novelty wears off (nonstop autoscrollers, repetitive rooms, shitty loading times, terrible weapon balance, etc). This doesn't necessarily apply to everyone but looking at the strengths & weaknesses of both games, it makes sense.

Also remember that corruption is the game where plasma beam is an outright downgrade from power beam
red chamber dream
i suspect you're right ... echoes speed runs at least are incredibly interesting to me even though i don't otherwise enjoy the game, so if i played it more i would probably appreciate it more. the problem is the game has to make me want to play it again, and it totally fails at that. everything is so ugly and feels like a rehash of prime, so i don't even want to bother. practically the only appeal of that game to me is the music and sanc fortress

corruption had a LOT of backtracking, i specifically remember running back and forth across all of skytown for seemingly no reason
