oh yeah, your right. thats what prevented me from getting it last time.  i knew there was a catch.

My route through the game is pretty odd, the last few times ive done this.

gotten morph/long beam/charge/missile/bomb/varia (and about 5 missile tanks) before leaving brinstar.

go into norfair, get power grip, ice beam, go down to ridley.. take the right path, go all the way around grabbing the super missile above ridley... killing ridley, going back up through norfair, grabbing the high jump/screw attack/wave beam (and a bunch more upgrades) then i go down into kraid ridicously overpowered, own him, grab the rest of the upgrades in brinstar (just one or two) go through tourian etc...

then once i get my uber suit, go down into norfair/ridley grabbing each upgrade of those area's, use the "bridge" from norfair to ridley, grab the one or two things im missing (i should be able to get those my first time through, im still working things out) then i end by going up through tourian, then ending back up at the chozo ship.. grabbing the stuff in crateria.

Its not the most time efficient route, but once i streamline it a bit, it seems to be doing a lot of good.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I just did Snow's method today, and I actually found the Corollax method to be a little easier, just because I absolutely suck eggs at single wall jumping. I did manage to pull it off after a few tries though, ant it would probably end up being easier with practice.
I think coming from Chozodia is how you're supposed to do it.
How do intend to do that withour power bombs?
I actually first tried the early SM today (since I got my hardcopy of ZM yesterday... finally)  I went through once, now im going again 100% (following Red Scarlet's path)  It took me two tries to get to the ledge on the left... one more try to get a shine (instead of just running into the wall) I then shinesparked right, without jumping high, so I hit the wall... then the next try I got it.  It took me about 2 min to get it (without having tried it before)... so I don't really think it's to hard.
Cook of the Sea
I thought this was the way you were supposed to get it anyway.
Getting the Crateria SM does NOT require the Space Jump! It was my first Super Missile in my first run (I actually got it by accident) I did it like this

Starting from the left ran to the right. Charged spark

Single Wall jumped up the pillar.

Lept into the air

Horizontal Shine Sparked right.

I flew right, hit the hill and dashed straight into the missile.

You can come out of somersault at any time by hitting up or down (I usually hit it accidentally when IWJ a very high wall or when in water.)
