Go easy on them guys, these people are used to being given a list of talking points an opinions game publishers want them to write about. It's hard for them to try and have their own ideas. Poor video games journalist, life can be so hard for you.
Metroid Prime is still my most favourite game of all time. Why would you only want to spend 55 minutes completing it
People who view speedrunning with this mentality never fail to confuse the hell out of me. Do they not realize exactly how much time goes into getting times like these?
Do they not realize exactly how much time goes into getting times like these?
Yes.
Remember all anyone else sees is the final time, the hours upon hours of trials and scrapped runs happen behind the scenes and to the outside observer not part of the run they were shown. So ultimately to people that do not do this kind of thing it took fifty five minutes to complete the game or the hour and a half the video takes depending on which of the two available view points they want to use. It's really not weird.
Huh? Someone set a new 200m record? Why would you want to run quickly? I LOVE running! In fact I walk most of the time because it's so enjoyable. You just don't run fast. I don't understand why anyone would want to do that.
Geez... 19 seconds. Why would you only want to spend 19 seconds running? I just don't understand it.
I watch your run couple days ago. I have to say thats nearly perfect. Seriously i pick up two main errors and both seems very minor. Missing adult sheegoth and missing last power bomb against Omega Pirate are biggest one. Last boss was extremely lucky. Last subchamber look some seriosly good looking RNG.
Really skilful run. I´ll wonder if i somedays see 54 minutes run. Its might long way and might requires use some savepoints and little more optimizion with RNG things like chozo fights, ID drone, PB maze and skipping Ridley fly phase. I am see this only once Miles 58 minutes SS run.
But this look that was nearly human limit what human can reach with this game.
Amazing run, its unbelievable how you are bending and controling those dashes. Great to see every person has its own unique style. Yours make it look as if Samus is as light as a feather with two wings on the back..
I find its hilarious to compare a 1 hour 20 minute long run to a 20 minute run. Why would you do that, also Metroid Prime any% has been runned for years now and that new OoT category just for a couple months as far as i know. I don't think the OoT run is nowhere near as good as T3's run. Though it's still a good run and i do respect cosmo a lot, especially also because he keeps up SRL for such a long time. Still you cant compare those runs, i cant say for sure which run is better, but i don't really care, personally for me T3's run is a thousand times better, even though cosmos run went so well. I just remember all those years where zoid's 1:06 seemed to be unreachable for me. (it still is just barely in reach lol) And i've put quite some time into this game, even though i run so many games now.
i especially love your style - smooth and fluid but fucking hurried as all hell. you dash off targets as soon as you lock on to them, as if they're not there, and bend your trajectory precisely where you want it. your boosting is very impressive as well. all around a thrilling watch.
Though what i didnt expect is, theres still quite some visible movement mistakes at some places and the chozo ghost werent optimal either, seems like theres still more room for improvement i'd expected from a 0:55, seems like T3 is god or something.
Highly impressive run. I'm surprised that a run with that Sheegoth fight and OP fight could still be 0:55. Your movement was generally very fast though so I guess I'm not too surprised.
What do you think the prospects are for 0:54? It didn't really seem like there were 53 seconds of mistakes in that run but I could be wrong. Maybe with a better Sheegoth fight and a better OP fight and getting Ridley flyby skip while also performing everything else just as well...
for such a long run, there were very few mistakes. i could see it getting optimized a little bit more, but there will probably have to be new discoveries/routing for a lower time.

To be honest, I don't know why you're taking the piss to Cosmo's run - as far as technicality goes, his movement, RNG, and overall play is far more polished than T3's run is. The comparison, however, is redundant. Ocarina of Time features 2 boss fights, little opportunities for RNG, and a much shorter run time which allows for way more optimization in the run compared to Metroid Prime clocking in at almost 5x that long...
Anyways, this run is really sick. Skull64: It isn't so much that there is 53 seconds of raw mistakes (Although, I'm sure if you removed all 'play errors' in TAS condition, it'd probably save about 2 minutes in optimization), but there is definitely much more than 53 seconds for potential timesaves (if I recall correctly, Fly By skip saves just under 50 seconds in and of itself) whereas saving before ridley costs about 2 seconds using this route assuming you don't do it (T3 does)
is there any interest in segmented any% for this game still? seems like a runner could save before ridley on every run and always fine-tune the final segment until it's basically perfect.

Well T3 does actually save before ridley here, he just elected to do a Single Segment style run and go directly for Metroid Prime in one shot. If he got flyby skip and optimized Metroid Prime a tiny bit more he could sub 55 I think. It wouldn't be easy though
Like Master 88 talked about, I foresee the fastest time being saved strategically, in very long segments (maybe 4 times) being possibly 2 minutes faster than this using the same route if it was done 'real-time-perfect'
yeah, i was suggesting a 2-segment run, saving once before ridley. seems like a no-brainer because it guarantees a lot of time saved, but i also get the appeal of ss.
yeah undoubtedly segmented would produce the fastest run, but i think "speed run" has come to mean ss, while segmented is something weird that few care about anymore
likely just not anytime soon. aside from the obvious glaring mistakes that everyone has pointed out, there are a lot of unused strats/minor optimizations that aren't in the run for consistency. the more i improve, the more i realize how much more there is to pull from this game.

it doesn't save anywhere near that much. more like 12 seconds or so.
