Hello all,

I've just soft modded my Wii and I've got my original MP1 0-00 NTSC disk (that's working on my PAL Wii now due to the softmod).

My question is whether or not you *have* to have component (NOT composite) cables plugged in before the game will offer the progressive scan mode (by holding down B on start-up).

I sadly don't have any Wii component cables to hand right now to actually test this. :(

I'm not sure about PAL consoles but on my NTSC console yes you only receive the prompt if the Wii has component cables connected. They were only about 20 usd when I got them a few years ago

For my disc it always prompts where or not I hold B

Cool. That means I can get Wii component cables and a hardware component to HDMI upscaler to play this at 1080p at the highest quality (via real hardware). Dancing
Yeah, you need the actual Component Cable to prompt the 480p screen.

on Wii, holding B is never necessary. only having the Component cable plugged triggers the prompt. it's different than on GC because, on GC, you need to hold B to get the prompt even if you have Component cables plugged (the prompt is automatic after the first time unless you say no)

i use a Wii2HDMI converter made by neoya and the quality can be slightly better than using component cables. you can also plug it to anything that accepts HDMI that way and it's a very small adapter that doesn't need external power.

So my component hardware upscaler arrived today. Here's another test using the NTSC copy of MP1 (as it outputs 480p therefore not fucking with the native AR - unlike PAL releases).

Spoilered for size:
720p

1080p

720p

1080p

So it seems that going up to 720p doesn't actually damage the picture that much, it's only when you hit 1080p does the text and lack of AA really start to show.

I reckon I'll do my upcoming MP1 Hard mode 100% items and scan video guide in 720p. 1080p seems just a bit too blurry for enough people to care about the resolution boost.

looks pretty decent but i think the aspect ratio kills some of the quality.

here's some pics showing what i get with the framemeister upscaled to 1080p. resolution is scaled up 2x so the image inside the black border is 1440x960.

Oh men, that looks so nice!! It's a pity though; always when I'm getting used to dolphin and then have to settle to console again it -almost- looks like crap compared to what I'm used to w/ dolphin.Wink
