It might be already known but I found that getting IS could depend on the beam you're using at the moment. Given the same position and the same angle, I can get IS with power beam whereas I can't get it with wave beam equipped. Weird.
Logically it shouldn't affect it since the morph ball and power suit shouldn't really interact, but IS is completely illogical anyway, so...
You may have soething there Oliver. I had trouble getting IS for a while. At first I thought it migh be because I switched from GC to Wii but I later found that wasn't true.
So you think that the trouble you had might be because of this?
Possibly. It was a few months ago and I wasn't paying attention to what beam I had so I can't day forsure
Unfortunately, I was totally wrong. I tried it again under the same circumstances and it worked with both beams I had so far. Sorry guys for misleading you.
I think part of getting IS might be random, as far as I know, nobody really knows how it works. The only people who probably would are the programmers.
When I do IS, I try to find a postion where it works. Then I take landmarks of where I stand and where I look. With a precise positioning, it's really not random at all.

BTW I've read once that ice spreader could be gotten with IS AND that you could get back into the room. But it seems that the tube can't be broken even with a PB laid outside of it.
EDIT : I could break the tube with a PB but it would ne nice to be able to escape without it.
Speaking of PB I had an idea for something involving IS but it would require bomb jumping that is beyond me. Are you a good bomb jumper?
The worst you could find, but please let me try it. What is it?
You know that PB expansion that's underneath ice in Phendrena? I thought a good enough bomb jumper could reach the room where it is after getting IS from Chapel of the Elders and get the expansion with that. You could then have PBs right after wave beam.
It is supposed to be impossible, but I guess trying harder wouldn't hurt. Can you explain the way it is supposed to be done after getting IS? Or maybe upload a theory video?
BTW is IS gone once you unmorph? If IS isn't gone, maybe the room could be climbed blindly, then morph and boost into ice ruins west.
I'm pretty sure it does go away. I've tried. But ice ruins west could probably be reached with a tbj. Tomorrow I will try a few spots for dbj.
you can not use IS to get the pb from ice ruins west. i have tried and it does not work. fyi i used a very tricky bomb jump in ice ruins east to get up there. but IS does not work, nor can you get it from sw state. it just won't happen.
Weird, I thought IS always worked for nearby items. Is there any way of reaching that pb in magmoor early? This could be significant.
I've been able to grab a missile expansion in ice ruins east (the frozen one) but I couldn't reach ice ruins west. Can you explain how you did the bomb jump?
I've noticed that the items that couldn't be grabbed were a little too high. For instance, the missile expansion at the top of a spiderball track in phen shorelines, and the one in ice ruins east. Maybe the PB expansion in ice ruins west is a little too high or maybe it could be grabbed by boosting from a higher place.

About that PB in magmoor, I thought of a method that I was never been able to test but which is rather slow I think. Maybe by getting floaty jump, then doing IBJ to climb the tunnel backwards and reach the PB room.

i dont think IS has anything to do with height honestly. for some reason it's just very fickle about what items it will pick up, no clue why

for the magmoor pb yes floaty jump ought to work, i dont see why it wouldnt (probably tricky to get to fiery shores without touching lava though) but yea it would be slow.

in ice ruins east i did the bomb jump from a corner under the door that leads to the room with the ice beetles. there's a small notch on a pillar that you do a single bomb jump onto, and once you're balanced it takes a dbj (no unmorph) off that little notch up to the actual door. but there's some overhang so you have to kind of roll out from under it while you're laying bombs and blasting up, very tricky. but it's the only way i could find.

IS absolutely goes away if you unmorph. also if a stone toad eats you but there's not many chances for that ;p
Also something strange happened while I was boosting in ice ruins east. The armor appeared as normal around the ball, like the glitch wasn't active. It happened after getting frozen by a sheegoth. I thought the glitch had gone but when I unmorphed the light show began. It was still on. Maybe the freeze acted like being eaten by a stone toad.
About the bomb jump, you did it in ice ruins east? I don't see where this room with ice beetles is.
getting frozen by sheegoth must take away IS too. you'll still the get light show yeah but your actual boosting IS power doesn't work. as a rule, if you see the morph ball shell again you've lost IS power.

the ice beetle room is the one that connects ice ruins east to the upper level of phen shorelines. maybe i'm remembering wrong and there aren't beetles there after all

It's an interesting trick, this IS, I've done it successfully about three times, in the same place every time - behind the box in wave beam room. But there's supposed to be a way to do the IS without boxes - getting stuck in the wall next to a door. That one I've done too. But while stuck in the wall, I can't get that spin going right. I've tried so many times in som many ways now and it just won't get the spin. Jammed between the box and the wall works like a charm, but stuck in the wall never works. Why?
You have to be at the right angle. In Lnading site for example you have to aim above the ship then morph. It is a bit tickier thogh.

I haven't read through the whopping seventeen pages in this topic, but if the topic post's summation of confirmed IS glitches for Metroid Prime is accurate, I have some new info.

Elite Quarters: I IS'd after the Omega Pirate fight from Processing Center Access, the right side of the door if you're looking into the room from Elite Quarters, I aimed halfway inbetween the phazon you can see through the middle support structure, and the alcove at the right, which lies exactly opposite the alcove containing the elevator. Now, when I use Boost Ball, the little elevator activates no matter where I am in the room. I can even fully charge the Boost Ball with no adverse effects.

Tallon Canyon: While still IS'd from Landing Site, Boost Balling into the halfpipe crashed the game.

Unfortunately, I have no video capture equipment, so you'll have to confirm for yourself. I've never successfully pulled off a glitch before, so I'm geeked and am gonna run around and try to do whatever I can with IS. I'll post anything else I find out.
What's IP?
Probably Infinite Possibilities, same thing as IS.
...
It would be great if the mods could sticky this topic so that people don't have to keep doing huge bumps just because they have a question about IS.
