Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but what does "sticky topic" mean?

So, what, the game can be beaten in as little as an hour and a half now? :p

the game has been beaten in 1:03, and the video is almost 2 hours long.

unless you're thinking that this trick has been used for speedtricks, i don't think it has.

I think stefan used IS to get the chozo ice temple artifact in his wr run, but thats it.

So is it actually faster to get the artifact that go back and collect it? What If you go through Phendrana Shoreline later on anyways?

In a PAL single segment speedrun you can either do the thardus jump or pick up early sun with IS. I think both are equally fast but early sun is earlier in the game in case you screw up and the thardus jump in a single segment would be sick.

What does thardus jump have to do with it?

He's talking about how doing a thardus dash back to Sun and grabbing sun with IS is the same time roughly, but Thardus dash has the horrible chance of cocking itself up, so early Sun would be feasible.

Would fighting Thardus count? I fight him anyway since I can't manage MQA without spiderball.

He's talking about a low % run which would include you NOT obtaining spider.

ok, I was just thinking about a casual run.

22% run: do it. It's fun as hell.

A 50% run would probably be cutting close for me. At my skill level a 22% run would be beyond impossible.

50% seems like too many expansions. i think you could get around 40% and still have plenty of tanks/missiles.

TBH, I usually average around 45% in my any% runs.  You don't want too many expansions because it just wastes time.  Grab the extra Energy Tank or two if you need it, but try to improve yourself until you don't need those extra tanks.

Zero Etanks and 45 missiles is about the most proper setup. Any less missiles and MP1Form will be a bitch, any more and you've watsed too much time.

i'm pretty sure on ntsc (assuming that's what you play, dunno if it's same on pal) it's faster to not use flickerball by about 30 seconds. you pass by there on the way back from thardus anyway, and it takes about a minute to deviate from the route back to magmoor and grab the artifact. with flickerball being used it takes between 1 and 1 1/2 minutes of spinning. i dunno, maybe my timing was off, maybe it takes up to a minute and a half because my game is scratched or something. in my experience using flickerball is about 30 seconds slower. i'll leave it at that

always move fast
iirc it takes one minute and 4 seconds from the start of the spin to activating the flickerball (assuming you have the right angle).  i think routewise doing it in phendrana is faster, but with the normal route there is then no good time to collect ice spreader.  ice spreader saves more time than flickerball saves, so overall flickerball there is slower.

I'm not saying anybody's wrong but my times have been going down every time i do the Phendrana flickerball trick. But Iv'e also been doing riskier and harder tricks though. Thanks to Zoid, StefanvanDijke, Kip and Sparky's runs (among others)for guidance. I know what you mean about the Ice Spreader. I thought I was forgeting it. Also In Bartendorspaky's test run, is that a bsj in control tower? To escape the fallen tower? What was the end time in the last segment completed? It's a really nice run.

in control tower it's just a tbj out of the hole.  sometimes the camera goes wonky so you get an instant unmorph, but other times it works fine.  first done in trebor's 22% 1:18 i believe.  i forget what the exact save time is, but with a ridley fight with the fly-by skip and a not-terrible prime fight, it would've ended with a 1:02.  those last two segments are boring though so it doesn't matter.

as far as i know, flickerball was used in the PAL SS run to completely cut the thardus dash from the run since that was a run-killing trick. it loses time but makes the whole thing a lot more safe.
