doing a mock-speedrun to test an ibbf route, since its so different than the standard route, i cant really estimate it, and im not sure which missiles to get and such, and so on and so forth.  the route will be as followed, with various missile expansions and such thrown in:

1-2) frigate
3) sjf
4) missiles -> mb -> charge -> bombs
5) ice -> save in gathering hall
6) varia -> wild
7) nature -> boost -> wave -> plasma
8) powerbomb/spirit/elder -> thermal (dunno the order)
9) enter mines through ppc -> main pb
10) lifegiver -> world
11) xray -> chozo -> warrior
12) phazon suit -> newborn
13) sun -> strength -> ice spreader
14) truth -> ridley
15) metroid prime

anyway, segment 1 (2:01.955).  lost about a second by missing the elevator dash, and im sure another second could be made up overall for a :01 save in a real speedrun...

While it would be really boring if this would be what gives us sub 1:00, I'm still really interested in what time you'll get. Go go go.
same here. looking forward to watching the whole run; first segment was awesome. good luck sparky.
Just gonna reiterate my last post in the "fastest times" topic: if Ice Spreader only saves like 40 seconds, and you might be taking more time than that just to get it, why not get Strength on the way to Plasma and forget Ice Spreader altogether?

as far as i know, by getting sun later, it takes much less than time saved to get ice spreader.  im pretty sure this was is faster, but if someone can show me otherwise, im more than willing to change. this is just a test route afterall...

I agree here.  We know the IS bug can be used to successfully nab Sun early; why not get Strength on the way to (or back from) getting wave and boost?  How about this route:
1-2) frigate
3) sjf
4) missiles -> mb -> charge -> bombs
5) ice -> save in gathering hall
6) varia -> wild
7) nature -> strength -> boost -> wave -> early Sun (IS)
8) plasma -> powerbomb/spirit/elder -> thermal (dunno the order)
9) enter mines through ppc -> main pb
10) lifegiver -> world
11) xray -> chozo -> warrior
12) phazon suit -> newborn
13) truth -> ridley
14) metroid prime
...
This is just copy-pasted with a couple of changes.  I'll think about any potential improvements.  The one thing that jumps out at me is the hike you'll have to make from #9 (PB's in Mines) to #10 (Lifegiver in Chozo Ruins).  You do have to visit the Ruins at least once after plasma (to get World), but seems like there might be a better way to do that part.  Or, maybe not.  Question

shall i take this route instead then?  i still cant see early sun saving 40 seconds, but it very well might...  also keep in mind that getting strength this way costs much more time than otherwise.

also, the save would go after plasma (near magmoor workstation), because the shorelines save is way far away.

edit:  the only other way for world/lifegiver i can think of is world after main pb the normal way (crash site), and then after newborn, take the magmoor elevator to ruins, get lifegiver, then head back to ship through main plaza.  that seems slower though

How much have you practiced the IBBF? Have you got a reliable no-floating route sorted out? Secretizing Furnace from Furnace Access West is a pain in the butt, and there are many places it can go nuts.

It's been a while since I've done the IBBF, but I'm pretty sure I still have the route down well. If you need any help there, let me know and I'll see what I can do. :D

And good luck with the test run, I'll be VERY interested in seeing how it turns out.  8-)
Going from Newborn to Sun, are you cutting through Phendrana kip-style, or going through all of Magmoor and entering Phen from the front?

EDIT: I know you can get to Crossway with no floating at least, but scaling Crossway with sticky bomb jumps and SW ledges was extremely tough as I recall...

tried it for the first time a bit yesterday...  just now i got up to after crossway without floating at all, but i dont really know how to get back in so i got froze'd.

Hope this helps:

I haven't watched this in a while, but it should be the whole thing up to the HOTE ghost fight IIRC...
Anybody thought about wallcrawling from SW39 (Waterfall cavern) -> that one Overworld/Chozo Ruins elevator leading to the Ice beam? I didn't (<_<), but it might be worth trying, even though it would require some backtracking.
Anywhere, everywhere
There would be some ice on both sides doors that you would have to pass so it might be impossible.
You would wallcrawl around the Ice doors in the Overworld and the doors in the chozo ruins should be normal/missile doors.

Also, floaty jump might make the "normal" ibbf wallcrawl much faster aswell,though it would require to skip varia and come back to get the artifact later.
I don't want to sound discouraging or something but it will be slower than the standard route used by kip.

Good luck with the run Sparky!

Ice Beam Before Flaahgra.

IIRC, you have to door dump FCS, so IBBF from Tallon Overworld is impossible because of the Ice doors.

Oh, and as for this IBBF run, a suggestion:

I don't know if this would be any faster or just take the same amount of time, but it's certainly safer than climbing Crossway.

Well, you can bypass double ice doors using the triggers and door dumping, but it's a lot harder than usual.

i forgot about that video you made before. If that's do-able all the time with minimum fuss, then that'd DEFANITELY be a lot quicker and easier too. In fact, it'd make the IBBF a lot more via-able in a speedrunning sense as it would chop a couple of minutes at least (even on a good normal IBBF route run).
always move fast
you can get through crossway really quickly through a bunch of platforms on the right side of the room.  i think if you can cross rooms really quickly, that would be faster, but that video sure is nice...

To be fair, with that video, the speed Vs frustration ratio would be worth it tbh. Less aggro for minimal time loss, bear in mind Sparky, that the door leading to HOTE access is a pain in the arse as half of it covers your view as you try to secretize HOTE access the usual SW way...
Anywhere, everywhere
So how long do you think the IBBF segment will be. My best is about 15-20 minutes. Embarassed

Pulled off pretty flawlessly? I reckon you could do it in about 3 mins or so...
That's a really awesome trick; is there a hole in the ceiling or did you pass through the sticky wall somehow?

There are secret worlds in Great Tree Chamber and Life Grove, right? So right after Ice Beam, could you use them to wallcrawl in and out of Life Grove to score the X-Ray Visor and Artifact? There's the bendezium wall in Life Grove though, which could complicate things... If this could be done, how might it affect the route?

IIRC, Flamy has already done this one.  And, the problem is as you stated - using SW's you can get in to Life Grove and get Xray and Artifact of Chozo - but then you're stuck, unless you've already picked up main PB's or a PB expansion.  (Yes, there's a SW in Life Grove.  That's not the problem.  The problem is the bendezium in Life Grove Tunnel that prevents your exiting to Great Tree Hall.)
...
So, it's a cool trick, but useless.  If you don't have powerbombs, you're stuck.  If you DO have them, then it's far quicker and easier to get into Life Grove normally.

EDIT
===
Now, I'm no wallcrawler, but it seems like a way around that would be as follows:
* enter GTC secret world
* wallcrawl into Life Grove, get Xray visor and Artifact of Chozo
* enter Life Grove secret world
* can't PB away bendezium, so wallcrawl all the way back to Great Tree Hall (possibly using the wallcrawl to bypass the DBJ over the bars as well)
...
Is there some reason that this kind of wallcrawl is not feasible?  The other problem is that if you try to enter the Mines at this point in the run, you're still without wave beam, so you'll get stuck very quickly.
