CHAPTER WAN

drowning (溺死 - courtesy of google translate)

To him it feels like it happened just yesterday, yet at the same time it could also have happened hundreds of years ago. Sometimes the boy considered it might be happening right now, however in the end there was no way of telling. For him, all was lost. He could not move, not hear nor see. He could not even feel. There was no way for him to know whether he was breathing. Whether he even still possessed the ability to breath, to live.

"When did this start?" He asked himself again. He had given up on thinking what was happening to him a long time ago. Asking himself when it had all started, resorting to the most simple concept of time, to believe there is a past, was his only way to reaffirm himself that he still existed. That time did not forget him.

Suddenly, there was darkness. The boy's consciousness almost crumbled apart as he came to this sudden realization. After all this time, even though he was not seeing anything, he knew there was hope for him.

It took him a while to get a hang of himself again, to be able to hold clear thoughts. Just as he was about to reclaim his initial thought process, about what was happening to him, he started to hear something. A monotone ringing that only grew in volume. It got louder and louder. He didn't want this. The tone teared away on his mind.

Then it stopped.

Yet he felt nothing.

"They doubted me, called me crazy." said a rough voice. A voice? Somebody is there by his side. This is a good thing, right? He wondered. "Kicked me out, said my methods were inhuman." He realized the source of the voice was closing in on him. At the same time he heard foot steps. There definitely was somebody there. "They didn't even consider mixing our strength with magic. Didn't realize there were ways to go farther." He tried answering the voice, but couldn't move his mouth, not even tongue. "This is bad". Insecurity started to form itself in a corner of his mind. "So, how are we feeling? Ah, well, yes indeed you can't answer me - yet. I am very sorry about that, just a sec" whoever was there just directed his voice at him. "Ready? I'm going to push it."

Ready? Ready for what?

"Gaaaaaahhhh!"

Pain. A sudden pain that lasted for not even a split second rushed through his body, like hunds of mice were nagging away on him. But it was over before he was abte to think even that far. He heard an echo of a scream. Not knowing where it had come from it scared him.

"You felt it, right? That's great, that's great. So, why don't you answer me? Might be happy to use your mouth again."

So it was his scream. He was not surprised, considering the pain he had just gone through. It was natural for a human to scream in pain.

"I know you are awake. Answer me." That voice again. At first he did not know what to say, but eventually realized that it was time to ask the question that has been on his mind for so long: "When did this all start?"

There was no immediate response.

"That I'd like to know as well" the voice answered after a while "It's all done"

For a while he heard steps. As these turned quiter and quieter he realized the person he has been with was moving away from him. It didn't take very long until he could no longer hear a sound. The person left.

Suddenly, before he had a chance to put another thought on his mind, his vision was restored. Oddly enough he didn't need to get used to it. It was just there, as if it had never left him.

What he saw was a person right before him. He got startled for a moment and lowered his head, but grew confident very fast. He can hear, he can see. He is alive. That thought alone drove him forward, although he still felt like something was off. He took a deep breath and moved his head back up. His vision blurred as he did this, but he could still see. There was no reason for him to worry.

The person infront of him was all covered up, wearing black leather gloves, a boring brown leather hat and a matching brown cloak. He couldn't figure out the person's face as it was mostly hidden inside the hat's shadow. He then also realized that the room he was inside was very dimly lit.

"Who are you?" as he asked a small part of his vision blurred again. There was no response. He clutched his fists telling himself not to be scared.

Contemplating his situation and focussing on the person in front of him even more, he realized, from the way the person was standing in front of him, the way he was percieving it, he knew he was standing.

So he took a steep forward.

Strangely, the cloaked figure did the same. He felt sudden fear and quickly took a few steps back.

The person dd the same.

"Who are you?" He asked again, his voice clearly shaking.

Something felt off. He knew this situation, but couldn't quite grasp it. Again, another deep breath.
Focussing on what was around the unknown figure he finally realized he was staring into a mirror.

"Relieve? Should I be feeling relieved? At least there I no reason to be scared ... I'm alone, right?" his voice trembled even more. This was not caused by environment. The feeling of sheer terror he felt, it was caused by a sudden realization.

He looked down, put his arm in front of him and realized that he couldn't feel the leather gloves touching him. He also did not feel any weight on his shoulders, even though the cloak he was wearing must be very heavy. It run through his mind, but he couldn't care. There was something far more important. Something he forgot but should have never forgotten.

As he looked up into the mirror, he finally asked himself who he was.

The figure in the mirror closed in on him as he moved towards it. He knew he had to take a look, a look at himself. He had to find out who he was, and there was this clear solution.

But somehow he lost control over his body. Like something pulled away the floor beneath his feet he suddenly feel and a loud sound of splitting glass surrounded him.

It was the mirror. He had crashed into the mirror and obviously destroyed it. He got back up quickly and took a look at the mirror's remains.

There was no shard left that could have been used in order to take a look at his face. "How's this even possible?" The mirror was completely shattered into the tiniest of pieces.

"Such misfortune."

I think I'll write on this whenever I feel like it. one chapter per week sounds good though, because any faster would make this boring fast I'm afraid

thanks for the positive feedback
