I'm nowhere near to being the best either, but walljumping is advanced?

What I found weird was that they had all played metroid before and liked it, but didn't really keep on playing it.  They talked about metroid all the time, but that was it.
Good topic, I guess?... ;)

Anyhow, it's strange for me.... I can walljump really quite well in Zero Mission, but, the timing for it in Super Metroid is so different and more unforgiving somehow, I really can't do it in SM.

If you can do it in Zero Mission then you can surely do it in Super since I believe it is more forgiving, especially single-wall.

Just to clarify - I thought it was all weird, but that doesn't mean that it actually is weird.  The kind of obsessive play that goes on at this site is more easily defined as weird.  It's all a matter of perspective.  If I had realized that more the last time I bumped heads with those guys then I probably wouldn't have pissed them off as much.  I was basing too much off of my own experience.

Well, I think it's kind of weird as well to obsess over a game series without actually actively playing it. Assuming that is what you were refering to.

The problem most people have with wall-jumping in Super is the small delay between turning and jumping.  In ZM it's almost simultaneous, whereas in Super, you have to turn, putting Samus in the wall-jump pose, which you can clearly see when you do it, and then press jump.  Once you figure that part, you can almost make it look easy and lazy, wall-jumping off almost anything.

hm looks like i now know why i failed so hard at wall jumping when i played SM. i was doing it ZM style and missing jumps all over the place.

at least the obssesion around here involves the games themselves very heavily. you get your money's worth by replaying the games a lot and you focus on the actual entertaining part of the series (the story is good for like 1-2 discussions but actually playing the games can give lots of discussions over time)

Exactly.

And, by the way, that very good point is the very reason why I dislike the tendency as of late to make sequence breaking next to impossible. Super Metroid is now 16 years old and it is still being played. Because it is so very breakable and thus replayable. I mean, I don't see how the original developers could feel anything but the biggest sense of pride in knowing that who knows how many more years from now Super Metroid will still be played.

This is why I was saying that they would be wise to add sequence breaking elements to MoM.  They've obviously sat down and taken note of all the things that the players enjoy about the series.  They have to know the great lengths that people have gone to to break the Prime series and the gripes concerning the linearity of Fusion, so they would be fools not to put any value into the popularity of sequence breaking at this point.  Just because the Primes + Fusion moved away from the idea doesn't mean that they're done with the whole concept.
The utter randomness of this made me crack up

wow great remix. i like the original track a lot but this one might be even better.
XD Thats a weird vid. I heard the original song before, and as arkarian said(and beat me to it), it is a good remix.

You do realize that if the do add intentional breaks 90% of the people here will be bitching about the fact that they are intentional, right? If Zero Mission has taught us anything it's that. I'd support it though.
Well, the sequence breaks in ZM are, without a doubt, intentional. You have the "normal routes" and the "hidden routes" in the game, and despite your ability to mix up the order of the bosses and acquired items, you still end up at the sequential "milestones" that were planned out by the developers.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
and this is bad why?
Because there are too many parts in the sequence that are set in stone.

We talked about this once before.  I've never really felt like the fact that ZM's sequence breaks were intentional/planned was a drawback.  In fact, the kind of sequence breaks that are done in Prime which involve serious glitches and/or secret worlds don't really hold any appeal for me. I guess Super did it best because the breaks in that game didn't feel planned, even though some of them were.  They could do this with MoM.

So...? There are only nine items you absolutely need to get, ten on hard. The game even encourages lower % runs. So you don't have to abuse wacky tricks to do it, I don't see why this bothers people. Fusion sucks because it's linear, ZM sucks because it was designed not to be. What exactly is it Metroid fans want?

Yeah, I know it's something I've brought up a couple times because it is something that just confuses me to no end, I remember you and I actually being in agreement in this case. It's just that I've never really heard anything besides, "intentional breaks are dumb" from the other point of view and I actually am interested in understanding their view point.

And they absolutely could do it with Other M, I'm just not confident they will. If they do, feel free to choose an avatar for me to use to show off how wrong I was.
hilarious!

I wonder if there were any reports of an escapee from the mental institution?

rotfl awesome. looks like he could just be a moron.

I like how someone with obvious borderline morbid obesity still tries to suggest other people are fat slobs, just by upping the number. ;) "500 - 600 pound bodies". *grin* Someone needs to buy a mirror. A big one.

Her last one probably cracked when she leaned against it. And I hope she realizes that any person who would want to confront her would probably bring a gun, and jujitsu and a jack handle wouldn't do shit against that.
