go ahead and call me a n00b, but for some reason the irc just went down, and i have absolutely no idea why, other than it seemed to preserve everyone using the cgi client for a short period of time.

delete this if it was something unimportant like a server restart, but it didn't look like that, and some people, like me and houston stayed on after most people timed out
Thread title:
as far as I can tell, m2k2's server is working fine - it's actually the Internet itself that's broken. Certain people on certain ISPs don't seem to be able to route to ev1servers machines any more. I can reach ev1 fine, and apparently so can you, which suggests that the problem lies outside ev1, possibly at one of the Internet's core routers, or some idiot workman drilling through a cable, huge scale router DDoS, etc. - hey, it's 9/11 after all, conspiracy fans.

I can't do any diagnostics directly because my connection is working fine. Someone who's lost access to m2k2 could do a traceroute to identify the ailing router, but they won't be able to read this until the problem is fixed, so that's hardly useful.

Another machine I have an account on can't get to ev1 either, but it has ICMP sockets disabled, so I can't do a traceroute from there.
problem appears to be corrected at least for me in west texas on cox as of right now.

yes, it seems to be fully working again. i think we can safely assume the cause was a power cut or some suchlike.
