I never actually finished LA.  I really hate the constant reassigning of the A & B buttons.  I wish they would remake that game.

Would you liken it to the OoT Iron Boots?

Yes, but the fact that there are only two buttons to work with AND your sword has to utilize one of them makes it much worse.

Well, technical limitations turned out alright in my opinion. The game seems oddly customisable in that the action buttons aren't bound to one item in particular. You could be fighting with a sword and shield one moment, then making a running leap over a 3-square pit with the feather and boots. In fact, considering that there were only four buttons to mess with, and two of those were taken up with map and pausing, the inventory system turned out quite well.

The sword is pretty useless though. Arrows, boomerang and hookshot can all be used as reasonable substitutes.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I'm sure the original suffered from the same thing, having only two buttons.
It wasn't as big of a deal on the first one because of the nature of the items themselves.

B was bound to Sword, iirc, the Shield was always out and there were 8 items to fool around with.
