Instead of filling in your age, why not your birth date, which auto calculates your age?
You can even show the current birthdays on the main page, as a reminder or something.

I absolutely agree with you, but it's phpBB -- a standard forum. I don't know if you can change this so easily.  :?
You can. :P

You can change standards?  That's counter-revolutionary talk!
Aboo.
Hey this site is very useful. Thanks for the link.

yeah, the problem with the birthday mod is that i'd have to be modding so many already-applied mods that it would not be worth the minimal gain in functionality.

I like the idea, though. If only it were easier to do.

I dunno, I already get like seven "Happy birthday from blahblahblah forum" emails every April 1st.  But that's because I check my mail two weeks late.

Hahaha, of 3,454 registered users on FESS, I am the only one whose birthday is today and has listed it.
Mmm, birthdays. You made it another year without dying prematurely. You're also a year closer to the inevitable. It's a wash.

We need a php mod for that? Wink

There are of course those special birthdays. Sixteen ("Look out world, I can drive!" or "Ooo, swweeet!"). Eighteen - link. Twenty-one. (Mmm, beer... *drool*). And probably some more I've forgot.

Depends on where you live.

Also depends on where you live.

I dunno, I find sixteen to be quite stupid, even though driving IS nice. It's like, still too young to be considered an older kid, and everyone still looks down on you.
Personally, I'm waiting for seventeen. All my life I've wanted to be seventeen, and it's finally coming this year. It just seems like the perfect age to me - sixteen, like I said, is too young, while eighteen has all the responsibilities. What could a seventeen year-old possibly be worried about?
Also, nineteen and twenty sound like fun ages, simply because you don't hear much about them.
As I commented at another time, 20 was best because it meant I was no longer a teenager. :P

Other than that I'm pretty much only interested in my age if the number is interesting.  This year I'll be 2^5.
i was the closest to death i've ever been since birth when i was 19.

Heh, split?

Honestly, I haven't particularly been interested in the benefits of age.  I still don't have my driver's license (which has finally come back to hurt me), for some reason I don't think I'm going to vote much, and I'm not just itching to go and start drinking either.

The only thing I know of that a 17-year-old has to worry about is school.  Which is okay in my book.  Of course, I've only been one for 12 hours.

16?? wow, here in Austria it's 18 and with a special driving education 17...

21?? sish... that's sick man. Driving with 16 and drinking with 21...
in Austria it's, and now sit down Ladies and Gentleman: 16!! o_O

i think it's like that most everywhere except the us.

I think our drinking age would be lower if our driving age was higher.

I, too, have no interest whatsoever in drinking. I plan on not even having a twenty-first birthday party (never much been one for parties). I'll probably just stay home and watch TV ... I don't get to do that often.
Consequently, I have been planning all my life to have my eighteenth birthday party at McDonald's. What better place?
And I guess a good thing about being eighteen is being able to vote. I never really thought about it, but I'll be able to vote in the next election. Registering as an Independent ftw.

That's kind of your entire life when you're 17, at least here.  I'm gonna have my A2s (probably the most important exams of my life) distributed variously around my birthday, and I'll be studying for them pretty much the whole time I'm 17.  >_>

WiFi DS party at McDonalds!
again, to americans, or at least to me, that seems otherworldly. exams like that would stand no chance here. the sat and act (pretty much our only important standardized tests before graduate school) are constantly under attack for everything. iirc the sat was even on the cover of time magazine when a bunch of colleges dropped it as a requirement for application. go different culture.

My Mock exam results should be back next week. I've already got 38% in Applied Maths and have probably failed Maths and Irish as well. Not much time till june where i'll hopefully do better. :(
Also, I can't be bothered to get a driver's license.
whoa, do you speak irish to your family/friends, or are you required to learn it and then you'll never use it?

Heh, that's pretty much my entire view in a nutshell... except I had no party at McDonalds when I turned 18.  I just had a nice birthday pie.
