Played a bit of the DLC with my katana guy. Actually beat the first boss solo on my first try (no shield no less), so it really isn't as bad as it seemed.

Overally I'm not inclined to play the DLC any further, although I have 3 chars left for it.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Me irl thinking about trying to fight that fucking dragon some more
lmao

I'll maybe do an attempt every few days or so. or give up on it completely. dunno.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
GO DIRECTLY TO HELL YOU BARNEY THE DINOSAUR ASS LOOKING MOTHERFUCKER

Overall I'd be okay with that fight if they took his hp down by like a quarter. Fighting him is simple enough, it just drags on so long even if you're landing all head shots. So typical Dark Souls Dragon I guess. Gonna go ahead and take a break before heading after the final boss, I can only imagine it'll be yet another endurance match.
Congrats!

The dragon isn't that simple. I did like 5 attempts last night and he surprised me with some rare animation more than once.

The basic idea is rolling backward out of his melee attacks and smacking him in the head in the ~0.3 second window after his combos where his head is low enough to hit for about an hour. You dodge to the side when he charges, unless he roars first in which case back roll > hit head yet again, when he breathes fire downwards you back up and move left or right in case he transitions into death laser then run up to him as he's firing the laser or recovering from the firebreath. In phase 2 nothing really changes, the Laser Disco Party is kind of a "good luck, nerd" attack, if you can get by his feet on the outside of his left (your right) is pretty safe, I think.

Otherwise rolling backward is generally the answer to him, it's just that if your timing is off a bit or you lose track of his arm or something because he's too goddamned big you're getting severely owned. And in a fight that long you have plenty of chances to lose track of his arm or something because he's too goddamned big and get severely owned. The theory is simple enough, it's just an asshole of a fight where you just don't get to hit him sometimes and with his health and defense missing an opportunity because he's a dick is so much more irritating. It's just an asshole of a fight.

Apparently if you have 30 INT you can equip Pestilent Mercury and fuck him up real good, too.
I should probably check out that Pestilent Mercury strat then

new patch incoming

no changes to any of the new bosses though
>Increased scaling of sharp infusions, and increased damage gain at high levels of dexterity
I wonder how this affects my dex char. guess I'll be playing tomorrow
Tried the Mercury thing, makes the fight even more random and if you got your head strats down it won't outdamage just hitting him
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I hope the Paired Greatswords are still good after the patch. I wanted to play with them more. I mean they absolutely needed adjusting I just hope the damage reduction on the L1s isn't too harsh.
Final DLC is out so no more reason to patch!
Downloading patch now.  Going to start a fresh file and play the complete DS3. I purposely waited for both DLC's to come out.
Oh boy have fun
I started as a Herald this time.  I think I'm going to want to use some miracles this time around.

Faith seems like a better investment than INT in DS3 than the previous games if you're really only going for the buffs. You can get some pretty decent passive health regen going and I was really wishing I had that in The Ringed City. 30 FTH would likely have done me more good than the INT did.

I started a STR/FTH character up to sort of get back into the Dark Souls groove before the DLC dropped, but I've been waiting until I finish it off with my main before I get back to that character. I should just rip the band aid off and fight that last boss already, but the other bosses annoyed me a lot so I keep putting it off til later lol.
Managed to get to firelink shrine without dying, and I took out the crystal enemy near the beginning too.

Did they make it so you can't use the tree to jump onto the roof of firelink?

Also, I got stuck in under the broken ladder in by that tree.  I could not roll out, or jump out.  I was just stuck.  Had to homeward bone out of there.  Weird.

I think they actually did. Not 100% sure on it though.

That's why all the games have you start with the darksign item. I've been stuck like that a few times in the series.
so apparently the patch nerfed all kinds of infusions lol

and I feel like dex scaling is also affected. my dmg seems to have gone down on my dex char. :|
I've never used the darksign. Does it just make you die?

I was able to jump off the tree to the roof, so I guess it still works.

Nope still possible. I'm pretty sure it's intended at this point, honestly. Edit: lol didn't see that you did it.

Yeah they hecked up the elemental infusions it looks like lol. DEX is supposed to scale better at higher levels, but who knows what that means, really.
I think I'm going to play in offline mode.  I guess the new thing for invaders to do is just follow you around from a distance and avoid engaging you until you ignore them and just play the game.  Meanwhile they wait until you're in the thick of pve battle before they decide to step in and kill you.  It's happened to me 2 out of the 3 invasions I've had so far.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
They will usually fight you if you press them enough. They get nothing if you don't die so they have to deal with you at some point if you are patient enough to not play their game. If you have a Seed of the Giant Tree you can get he enemies after them too to make it harder for them to play that game and is pretty funny when it works out right.

I had a guy dead set on dragging me in to a big fight at the beginning of Irithyll. I almost felt bad about sending him to Fire Witch Hell. Poor guy didn't know what was happening.

I mean I'm certainly not gonna get on anyone's nuts about playing offline, though. I like the messages and bloodstains and surprise player ghosts enough that I feel like something's kind of missing when I'm offline, but if invaders are making things unfun then by all means do what ya gotta do to enjoy the game.
The messages are certainly helpful
