yep, it's a pressure cooker plus a ton of other stuff. sauteeing, stews, etc

it's the new hot shit these days apparently. i love mine - never cooked pork in my life and it turned out perfect
red chamber dream
i use it for oatmeal, chili, chicken and rice, asian chicken dishes... p much everything
I like turtles.
I had cooked pork before and can confirm the Instant Pot basically trivializes it.

I have a slab of corned beef going in mine right now. Really good for soups/stews of all sorts.

yeah tbh i probably use the meat/stew button more than the regular pressure cooker

really want to get the larger 8-quart one. i have the 6 and it's great but i always want to make more so i can freeze more

I concur on the instant pot. Best thing we have in our kitchen. It gets used every day for something in our household. Used it to bake a potato this morning while I worked out, mashed it up and poured chili on top that was left over from the night before (also made in the instant pot) for lunch.
well that's a ringing endorsement from the millennials

ohh i didn't think about baked potatoes

gonna add that to my list for when i can eat potatoes again
doesn't that make them boiled potatoes?
so I had the brilliant idea to install windows on my dekstop and use my other laptop as my linux mainstation by hooking it up to keyb/mouse, monitor and speakers. now it seems like I need a docking station to hook it up to a pair of speakers and those things are expensive wtf

Quote from ryu:
doesn't that make them boiled potatoes?

nope - you pressure cook them, no boiling involved
doesn't that just mean that water boils faster due to higher pressure?
no wait... wasn't it it boils faster as pressure goes down?
yes

the point behind a pressure cooker is you can boil stuff at higher temperatures, you're not limited to 100C, you can go higher than that

it's also true of things like sausages that cook inside of a skin

I'm guessing this instant pot does something else, like a hot air fryer or something
I've never seen one
neat. so when water reaches the boiling point it can't get any hotter no matter how much heat you apply?
that explains why boiling stuff never burns anything compared to stir frying

nah the instant pot uses water or other liquids, but it's not like you fill it up. for a baked potato you'd use like a cup or two of water and then it cooks mostly from the very hot, pressurized steam

that's how old school pressure cookers work too afaik

instant pot does that, as well as other stuff

at least i think so, i only read about this shit once lol

ok so it's a "baked potato" (faked potato?) rather than a baked potato

similar to just sticking one in the microwave but probably better for you, since you won't nuke all the vitamins like a microwave does
ryu yeah, when a region of water hits 100C, it automatically escapes as steam

so unless you're using a sealed vessel you won't get the temperature in a pan higher than 100C
I think this is why a lot of people recommend putting salt in cooking water before you boil it, because that also raises the boiling point (although I never do this)
I'm generally anti-salt
I'm a ... saltist
