like I can listen to a song and be like, "Yeah, this song sounds nice because it does such and such" but I know absolutely nothing about the technical side of it.
I also love though how people can take that game over little tune and mix it to be much longer and just have a super chill song.
One thing I worry about getting too into the technical side and too "into" music is that I'd be able to see the blemishes of amateur-made music. It happened after I got really into graphic design, I mentally nit-picked every sign, ad, magazine layout, everything.
yeah it's the curse of getting good at anything really
I remember very vividly the first time I realized this, since we were reading a short story in middleschool about this kid who dreams of driving a ferry boat down the amazon river, or something along those lines. He loved going on rides on the boat, talked to the captain and passengers, etc etc. Then one day he got to become a captain of the ship, and after doing it for years on end he began to hate the river. He knew every turn, every bend, the same trees and logs over and over and he got so good at driving the boat that it became boring.
yeah, I also don't think it's all that accurate compared to something like technology or science. You can get REALLY REALLY GOOD at even something niche like computer networking, but it will always be adapting and changing and there will be new things about it
it is gratifying at the same time though, I like it when I listen to guitar parts on professionally recorded music and think "yeah actually I could have played that better"
ah yeah that side of it too, being able to compare yourself to something professionally done or being able to do something better than what's considered amazing.
Whereas driving a boat is like.... yeah, theres no room for improvement
also hope you don't get sea sick easily lol. I lived on a boat for a short period of time, glad I did that when I was young cause I wouldn't be able to stomach it now
actually canals probably aren't as bad as the rise and fall of the ocean waves, even docked. Come to think of it, are you by the ocean? I'm not even sure
