Just came back from Chicago Comicon. My first con. It was pretty cool.
I've passed on the last few comic-cons in my town because I kept going through the whole place/schedule and realizing that I was only interested in about 1% of it.  Plus I get very anxious in a crowded place.

I really want to check out a gaming con, but that would involve airfare and hotel - too expensive.

Did you buy anything?  Did you meet any celebs or listen to any of them speak?

Something crazy happened.  My mother kicked out her roommate last weekend because she couldn't stand having him around any more.  He's around 25 yo, quiet, awkward. The deal was he would move in and work 60 hours a week at the Radisson for a few months saving up money to get an apartment.  She wouldn't see him very much because he'd be working all the time.  Well right after he moved in, he quit the job and locked himself in his bedroom, emerging only to use the bathroom and raid the refrigerator.  He was paying the rent, but my mom didn't like the fact that he was there all the time and argued with him. When she threw him out, he smashed her phone. I got angry when I heard about this, and concerned about her because she has no street smarts.  She's 62 and has been married her whole life until 5 years ago.  She's had a few roomies in the past few years and she didn't know any of them very well.
Well, a few days ago he was on the news robbing a bank.  He's on the run right now, but the cops and the FBI have all of his info because people like my mom who knew him recognized his picture immediately.  He just used a threatening note during the robbery, so I don't think he has a gun, but knowing he's out there and desperate scares me.

Well, that escalated quickly.

I kind of feel sorry for him.  I think he needed help, but it was out of reach because it's so expensive.  I think it sucks that our society won't pay to help someone like him, but we're willing to pay to imprison him when he does something that could have been prevented if he was able to get the help he needed.
Well, you need trained experts to help mentally sick people. It takes a lot less training to guard freaks in a prison.
In my state, it costs $30,000 to imprison someone for a year.  I think he could have gotten a qualified shrink for that.
Of course, bank robbery is a federal crime.  Not sure if it costs more or less for federal prison.  It's probably still a lot.

If I had to work a job 60 hours a week I'd go batshit too unless it was a more or less fun job that pays extremely well
red chamber dream
i think 60's too much for me period

but then again i'm lazy as shit
I get so exhausted working an 8 hour shift that I never volunteer for overtime.  I'm useless when I get that tired.  I just don't have the stamina.
My sweetie got a new car last week.  The dealership was kind of shady.  One day they told him to come look at the car, the next day when he came they said the car he wanted was stolen and tried to sell him another one.  When he didn't want that one, they said the cops just recovered the stolen one so now it's back.  I smelled BS.  But he bought the car anyways.
Then yesterday they called him at work and said the bank had reneged on the financing and they needed the car back asap.  The dealership is 70 miles away.  They said he had to bring the car back now, then come back the next day to see what else they could sell him.  He told them that if they wanted the damn car that they can drive their asses down here to get it themselves and bring back his $4K that he put down at the same time.  They said they would come pick up the car and that they would hand deliver the $4K to him at work the next day.  They came for the car, now we're just waiting to see if they're going to deliver the money.  assholes.

Is there even such a thing as a non shady used car dealer?
I'm just mad at them because now John is upset.  He really loved that car for the week that he had it.  He loved playing with all the features.  He washed it twice.  He talked about it to everyone who would listen.  Now they took it away.  It's like taking an ice cream cone out of a kid's hand.  Jerks.
Now he's moping around saying that he wants to jump off a bridge.  He wouldn't eat dinner lastnight.  I know he's being a big baby but he is a big baby.  And now his ice cream is gone and he's throwing a fit that I have to deal with.
I like turtles.
Read that last post before the one above it and I was really puzzled as to what ice cream could possibly be THAT good.
I read them in the correct order and still thought the second post was about actual ice cream

... why would he give it back before getting his down payment back? that doesn't seem smart.

He tried that and they said that they need it back that very same day, and if he didn't let them take it then they would report it stolen because technically it wasn't his yet

I guess it's not good to carry a metaphor beyond one post?  lol
I probably made some connection to the uneaten dinner. Or my mind was just on ice cream.

i would just say, go for it. talk about an empty threat. it's obviously not stolen, assuming he has paperwork.

unless it was your boyfriend's bank that had the problem, in which case i question why you wouldn't finance the loan through the dealership's bank
