Quote from nn12000:
I love Colbert!  His shows kick ass beyond anything else.

I love him too, but that love is often tempered with pissed-off.  It's no secret that Colbert's character is a shot at conservatives; what's not pointed out often enough is how cheap that shot is.  Colbert embraces and uses every attack liberals have been making, from actual arguments all the way down to insults and idiotic stereotypes (e.g. all conservatives are secretly gay).  Jon Stewart nailed Crossfire for making political discourse worse, but if you really want to lower the level, Colbert is your man.

Which would be okay, if it were just the show.  But Colbert is taken seriously as a political commentator.  The fact that his fictional character has been making appearances at serious events is downright offensive.  I have no sympathy for the organizers of the White House Correspondents' Dinner -- they knew what they were getting.  But they were fools to make the offer, and Colbert never should have taken it in good conscience.

He's a hilarious guy.  But that shouldn't be a license to get away with the kind of crap even Michael Moore can only pull in his dreams.

Yeah...except...not really.  I'm assuming you've seen previous WHCDs, yes?
Time bomb set get out fast!
No.  Why, are routines like this common?  I'd assumed not, since by all accounts Colbert's stunt was unexpected and went over badly.

This isn't his first appearance at a serious event, either... though he may not have been invited to the other one I know about.

I don't see a problem with it.  I just think it's funny.  I mean, the political system in this country is a joke anyway.  What's more farcical, the infantile smear campaigns and childish senatorial election ads we see, the demonstrations and calls for recounts and famous actors getting elected to public office, or Colbert making jokes about it?
All I know about the dinners, political commentators, and comedians I learned from Al Franken's books.  But I have the distinct impression that yes, it is not uncommon to have a speaker at that dinner who earns his bread taking humorous potshots at the people in charge.  I haven't watched the whole Colbert thing and I don't know what the backlash is, but it's not an isolated instance of blurring the line between comedian and commentator.

The WHCDs have always been a pseudo-roast of the President.  I remember Jay Leno speaking at one of them...'04, I think.  Colbert was a bit more blunt than most, however.
Time bomb set get out fast!
You can say that again.  A roast is one thing; this was an attack, pure and simple.  That's why nobody laughed, even though the jokes were clever.

Saber: I have no problem whatsoever with Colbert making fun of politics.  What bothers me is the way he does it -- he's really just a couple of steps above your little brother "talking like you" in a stupid voice.  He's a walking political caricature.  A hilarious jerk is still a jerk; I ignore that most of the time, but not when he pulls something this brazen.
Cook of the Sea
Can Colbert be faulted for that?  He gets laughs with his routine.  What's why he does it, because it gets laughs.  As a comedian, this is a smart move.  So if he style of humor is at times childish or whatever, doesn't that make it even more funny that he was actually allowed to speak at the WHCD?  The people in the WHCD saw what they were getting, and they opened their door and let it in.
Mister ...
I liked the episode where he was building his own Nuclear weapon. Proved a good point about that too.

But yeah, I hate politics, and I dislike any forms of government.  I'm not a hippie, I just hate government.  Is that so wrong?  Then again, maybe it is . Personally, I think most forms of governing is stupid.  The way I see it, why should one person be allowed to make all our decisions for us?  Why should we do what they want us to do? Etc.  but that's who I am.

Always make sure your nuclear weapon has access to a 120 volt power source?
Mister ...
Yep.  He's got his own Nuclear version of a Lava Lamp!

Lol. I could have bet anything that Ana Lucia would buy it.

You want politically oriented humour, watch Jon Stewart. imo you can't really compare him to anyone else. He makes it easy to laugh at your own political viewpoints and to realise how silly this country is.
Mister ...
I normally/try to watch him before Colbert.  At least not this week though.  I'm not gonna be watching any TV this week, sadly.  Maybe I'll just download the episodes I missed off of iTunes.

Unless he's the doctor of DISCO.

Nah, you've got it all wrong.  Disco's a mathematical field.

He can still be a doctor of disco, just not a medical doctor of disco.

And I'm mentally going through all of Dr. Mario's attacks, and I don't remember an elbow in the face one.

i suppose the side a smash is actually him using his hand, but it's hard to see because his coat and gloves are both white.  i don't know why i always think it's his elbow.  in any case, that move is by far my most hated, because it's randomly longer than the arms of pretty much every character in the game.
Anybody know of anykind of program that can accomplish a feat like turning a Quicktime movie into something like...  Oh, I don't know...  .AVI  .WMV  .MOV  would all be ideal for what I've got in mind....  Can anyone help me?  aiwebs_016

That's probably because he makes this little ball of lightning out there, where regular Mario would make a little fireball.
