Third place drawing is my least favourite. Upper tied fourth is meh. <3 First and second.

The lower Tied fourth place one just rocks. Love how it shows how Samus really looks in the game - huge helmet and all.

And heh, that costume is...interesting. In a sucky sort of way.

I don't think I'll ever get over how rad her gun used to look... so alien and creepy. Granted it looks a LOT more powerful now, but... I dunno, somehow I think it would be neat if they made that like her gun without long beam, just to incorporate it back into the series. So cool.

I really like the first place image. If I had a taller than wide monitor, it would be my desktop. :) (And the high res scan is there for anyone who wants to do similarly.) Ahh, the days where you had to really use your imagination because the games were not realistic yet.

The first place one is 1337. The perspecrive is pulled out nicely, and "Metroid" is really good. My least favourite would be the 3rd place. The cannon really bugs me.

That's not the Gravity Suit colors, that's the Varia + Missiles colors.

Also a couple of odd things I noticed:

1) In the first place one, the chink in Samus's armor is there. I thought it didn't appear until Super. Also, why is it there in Super? AFAIK, no explanation is given, and later it just disappears.

2) In the third place one, the Screw Attack is on Samus's armor. I thought that, again, this doesn't become Samus's logo until Super. Am I just wrong, or did Nintendo steal these people's ideas?

Look closer, chumps and chumpettes. The screw attack logo has NEVER been on ANY incarnation of Samus's outfit. Super Metroid began displaying something vaguely similar on the same location as that screw attack symbol, but it is NOT the same symbol.

I agree, Toozin, but I don't think LifeMega meant that Nintendo put the symbol on her armour; he meant that they started using that symbol in general (on the Metroid logo and whatnot) in Super. Which they did. (correct? It wasn't used at all in Metroids I or II, I thought).

These images accompanied the Metroid review, so the artists were not operating in a vacuum. It would be cool to know if this Power Suit was the "vision" of this sole artist or if it has its roots in Japan at Nintendo's HQ.
