so idkbutlike2 had the idea of doing a series of resident evil reviews/retrospectives over at gamelogs throughout the month, just in time for halloween. sound like fun? of course it does.

if you want to write about one of the re games, sign up in the main thread on gamelogs: http://forum.gamelogs.org/post/resident_evil_oktoberfest.html. we especially need someone who's played re6 or code veronica, but you're welcome to write about any of the games you want!

once you're done writing, just submit your article to gamelogs as a feature (use the link under the poll area on the home page). if we get enough people, i'd like to post them in game release order, but we'll see.
Thread title:
So I had some free time today and managed to write a review of RE3. I guess I'll submit after I finish RE1 and write a review of that game.
red chamber dream
sweet! be sure to submit it as a feature, not a review (that's because i can post a feature any time, but reviews can only be posted once a week)

guess i'll start writing something up for re0 to kick things off

idkbutlike2, can submit your re1 thing whenever it's ready. i want to space updates by at least a couple days so no rush.
Okay. I'm not done with the game anyway, so yeah...
Wait, how do you do the "Gamelogs Verdict" thing?
red chamber dream
that's only for official gamelogs reviews. since i'm the only editor of the site, for now that means just my reviews, lol.
You despot! I demand my tl;dr rights!
No seriously, I like that. Makes your points easier to understand sometimes.
Also, I just heard from somebody that RE0 has no stash box. Wtf?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah you just drop shit anywhere in that one iirc.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
it is both more and less convenient.

I don't see how it's more convenient. In RE games with the stash box, you could access items from a number of different locations, often by typewriters. Here you have to go back to the same exact room where you dropped it. Well, actually that isn't too bad unless they kept the random respawning zombies from RE3.

heh yeah i liked how gamesradar does that so i stole the idea ... other game sites are doing it now too it seems

the item thing is more convenient in that you don't have to trek all the way back to an item box just to swap out items which is nice, but yeah the downside is what you said

that's why i put item management as a negative, because while it's definitely more convenient, you also spend a lot of time dropping shit/picking shit up
Yeah, RE1 is pretty bad in the way you described, especially with Chris. It also happens to be pretty stingy when it comes to ink ribbons.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
It strikes me as the kind of thing that is actually pretty nice if you've played the game before and know when and where a given item will be needed so you can just drop it there or nearby. But if you don't it's just a mess where you debate picking up or dropping for way too long and probably forget where you dropped that one thing you need because you didn't think you'd need it so soon.
RE games are like that in general. They're much more enjoyable when you know what you're doing.
Which ones have you played, tbob?
red chamber dream
yeah that's why i tend to just keep a walkthrough open to be sure i don't fuck anything up and have to waste a bunch of time backtracking

None. I refuse to play games that think tank controls are acceptable.
They're not that bad once you get used to them.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
They are always bad. Tank controls can suck a dick.
So ark, who's gonna handle the RE2 review?
