Well, if you're going to have to bump, at LEAST have the deciency to disguise it with a semi-inteligent comment. I dunno about everyone else, but a post just saying "Bump" or the like will piss me off.
You know, now that you mention it I DO think no bumping was a part of the old policy, but it's definitely not mentioned in the rules now.
Well only Tim can give you an answer on it, as "forum policy" basically translates to his policy 8) And he'll answer (eventually) even if I try to give an answer, thereby negating any answer I try to give so I shan't waste me breath. I shall instead use my breath toward constructive ends. Such as typing the following obscure fact:
The longest single syllable word in the dictionary is screeched
Yeah, for the most part, I don't like to see "Bump" because it's sort of mindless and dumb, and as Toozin said, if you need to bump, it needs to be disguised as something intelligent, as in a reply to a thread. Otherwise, if everyone loses interest, then people lose interest. *shrug*
Yeah, I've always despised bumps myself. They seem like futile attempts to keep a topic alive. But I don't personally think they're so bad in certain situations. Like, say, you post a topic asking for help (that's NOT answered somewhere else, otherwise no mercy for you =P), and no one replies, and it falls down to the bottom page. You don't really have nothing new to post, and you really need help, so what can you do? Better to bump it than make an entirely new topic...
But I HATE it when people bump topics in which the question's already been answered, or the topic is otherwise dead. I also hate it when people bump topics that are on page 1. I also hate it when people bump the same topic tons of times (c'mon, eventually there's a point where you should get the hint if no one is posting). I ESPECIALLY hate it when people do stupid stuff like bump the last topic on the board for no reason. So yeah.
And of course, sticky topics help this problem a lot... :D
A double post isn't really neccesary... if you have something to add/correct, there's an edit function right there. The only reason to double post, really, would be to bump... and you know our policy on that now.
Of course, sometimes when there's a lot to reply to in a serious debate, I sometimes double post so I can use the quote button both times and not have to go through the hassle of busting open two windows or whatever. Is that okay? It doesn't happen very often... :?
EDIT: Oh, and what about the Maru Mari topic? What if I have something to say after some new strips, but I was the last poster? If I just edited, there wouldn't be the little new post icon. This shouldn't come up often, but just hanging out all the details...
