17:15 is the new world record.

(edit: For those who haven't been following this teenaged soap opera, I did not create this topic. The posts in this topic used to be located HERE, where two of my posts were deleted without notice. I am stating facts, not trying to challenge the administrator(s) of this forum. I would like to rephrase the above statement: 17:15+:07 will be the new world record according to Twin Galaxies and myself once it is verified by Tom Votava, the substitute NES referee for the month of October. It should be verified sometime in the next few weeks.)

(second edit: It's been verified. I won't be submitting a video to SDA - my apologies to those who care.)

Proof?
Yeah, man. You can't just run around saying stuff like that. At least link to the video of it.

There is a video of it, correct?

I played it! That's all the proof I need. But seriously, check Twin Galaxies in a couple of weeks. I have no idea when the video will make it to the 'net.

All you'd need to do is send the video to Nate or Radix, and you'll probably get it put up even faster.

Congrats on the time, cak.  I'm eagerly awaiting watching the vid.  It will be quite interesting to see how you cut ~80 seconds off of Spider-Waffle's time.  I watched his run, and his missile pickups were VERY lucky... he did lose some time in Tourian; I can imagine he was pretty nervous in not wanting to screw up such a great run with "Tourian death", but a perfect gauntlet run would have saved him 20 or 30 seconds tops, IMO.  There are a few seconds of mistakes throughout the rest of the run, but... I would have figured 18:00, maybe 17:50, as the best possible time without "emu-rape" techniques being employed.
...
Did you use essentially the same route as SW, were there extra tricks thrown in that he didn't use, etc... I'm just really curious, as I thought that SW's route was flawless.  (The execution wasn't flawless - but it was still VERY good.)
....
Not trying to dispute your claim, cak.  Just that I don't want to wait 2-3 weeks to find out how you did it.  My curiosity demands a faster answer.  DEMANDS IT, I say!!!  Wink

Sorry, but it'll be at least a couple months before the video is captured. I value my tactics, plus I don't want SW's run to be overshadowed so quickly; I have my record, after all. I won't elaborate much on the run, but I will say that the battle with MB alone saves a lot of time. The missile pickups weren't the best.

Um, why not? If you do indeed have the record, you'd be silly not to send it in as soon as possible.

Well, no, you don't exactly have the record until you can prove it.

If you want us to believe you, then that is certainly not the best way to go about doing so.
As far as most of us are concerned, you don't have the record unless we see the run (Twin Galaxies need not apply).

No offense, but by the same token, I don't NOT have the record until you can disprove it.

Well...no. Around here and SDA, no one has a record unless they can prove it, period. The only way to "disprove" a record would be for you to not send the tape in, so you'd be doing it to yourself, anyway.

And lol, it's not spam, whether you're being truthful or lying.
Quote from cak:
You may delete them if you wish and I will repost when the TG record is up.

And like I said, no one cares.
if we believed in things that couldn't be disproved, where would we be?

ohhhh, yeah, medieval europe ... when you were old at 30 -- if the plague didn't get you first! fun!

Those are the opinions of the people that operate M2K2 and SDA. My opinion is thus: the only way to prove a record to people is to perform it live in front of them. A recording of any kind can always be tampered with.

I disagree, but it's your forum, so no worries.

What purpose does this completely unfounded statement serve other than to hurt my feelings? If YOU still don't care in a few weeks, feel free to say so then.

Alright, this is my last post in this topic, as all of this has little to do with Blake's speed run. Thanks for the dialogue.

I'm sure that any tampering would be obvious to Radix and Nate, though. Trust me, a video is a perfectly fine way to verify a run.

So you're saying it IS spam, then? Why are you posting spam on "my" forum?
radix and i are nearly irrelevant when it comes to anti-cheating measures ... and even the verification stage is insignificant compared to the thousands of eyes trained on the video after its release. are you going to trust one person - or thousands? are you going to impress more people with a number - or with a beautiful dvd of your work? sda offers the best system for speed running, and i intend to keep it that way.
I'd rather trust the referee who makes arbitrary rules to impede speed.

Seriously, who would rather watch a run anyways? It's all about the entry in Guiness.

oh yeah?! well i've beaten metroid 1 in 4:52! betcha can't beat that one!

and i've got the video... i just don't want to overshadow anyone right now! i'm much too great for that! i'd much rather brag about it in someone's world record topic! i'd also much rather keep it a secret so people can't steal my tricks, and because this way i can brag about them for months to come!!!!!!!!!

Ready and willing.
He's right about one thing. This topic is about Blake's run. So can we keep it that way?

EDIT: I feel vaugely uneasy about how this escalated, as in I'm not sure it was all his fault. Even the mods, and Nate... but I'm not sure it wasn't either.
in the name of justice!
Yeah, I think he probably didn't know better.  There's been a lot of mention of SDA around recently, which I think is a big turnaround and help for the site, and it's all about the PROOF.  I think nate's comment isn't so much of an attack on the guy as it is about the "free" legitimacy that TG gave themselves.

Anyway, I just got and watched this run as I've pretty much blown away my download quota this month, so LQ for me... (NBMB stole my soul)  I'm quite impressed.  Don't really know about the last room, it might have been not that great, but I couldn't tell, it looked like there was only so much he could do.
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)

..then you don't have the record either, going by this site's, SDA's, and your opinion?

Spine: NBMB of what?
in the name of justice!
Err...your SM video...

Well, I'm guessing the "cak" is for Christopher A. Knight.  Congrats, cak.
...
Now, since your record is posted, any chance you might get the vid posted here/SDA and discuss your route strategies?
Funny how the site doesn't have a video to download.

I say he is just some retard who has an in with someone at this Twin Galaxies place, which, by the way,  looks like absolute shit.

and if there is one, I dont care because it wasn't as easy to find as it is on Speed Demos Archive. And I did look, by the way.

Whoa, Starman, take it easy. No need to blatantly insult other websites for no reason whatsoever.
hey, ark, he was clearly working hard to find new reasons to insult tg. can't blame a man for being creative, especially in such crowded territory.

>_>

If this were a topic about TG's layout, I would understand, but just throwing that in there was completely uncalled for.
