new file sharing system (user accounts go byebye)

update 2: user accounts have been archived and removed from the server.

update: user accounts have been disabled. please get anything you need via http. the user accounts will be deleted completely on 1 may.

effective 1 april, user accounts at metroid 2002 (e.g. http://www.metroid2002.com/yourname) will be deprecated/disabled/deleted. this means that you will need to use the attachment mod here on the forum to share videos, pictures, etc with other people here on the forum. you will also need to find somewhere else to host your avatar if you want it to be random.

i have increased the attachment quota so that you can share videos up to 10 meg in size with the extension avi, mp4 or mov using the attachment mod. i have also added the vba video extensions, so that hopefully you can use one of those formats instead of full data video to avoid using up your personal attachment quota.

the user accounts were not chosen to go because of any one offense; they have been a pain for a long time, and i have chosen now to transition to this hopefully more user-friendly method of sharing files integrated right into the forum. any feedback is, as always, welcome.

this of course also in some sense spells death for the echoes wiki, as most videos on it will break. AFAIK the echoes wiki is currently the only place outside my crappy low% speedrun that a couple of secret world assisted item skips (echo, cobalt) are documented.

I suppose the following options are avaliable:

i) do nothing, keep wiki where it is, do not care about broken pages.
ii) move the most important videos and screenshots elsewhere, repoint relevant wiki links and keep information on wiki.
iii) scrub wiki, move information to m2k2 echoes section.
iv) delete the lot.

User archives are what exactly? Sorry, I'm not all that computer savvy. And I'm guessing user accounts that haven't been active for so long have been deleted? Once again, not all that computer savvy, so I wouldn't know.

If you don't know what he's talking about then it's reasonably safe to assume it doesn't apply to you. :P

Some people here -- not everyone -- had directories (= user accounts, not the same as forum accounts) at metroid2002.com for the purpose of uploading and sharing videos and screenshots and the like. Since these items can be attached directly to posts the directories were no longer necessary, and now they're gone.
