Designed this just today. Looks like this unfolded:

It also includes two Zoomers and Samus that you can glue to the illusion spots, but they're not shown on the image above.

The template is here, and a PDF is available upon request.
A dashed line means a 'mountain fold', and a dotted one a 'valley fold', cut the solid ones. If you can't make out where the template's lines go, here's a clearer demonstration;

In order to do this properly, you need sturdy paper. Be sure to have some. (Even better, black paperboard with printer optimization.)

Don't hesitate to ask if you hit any problems, or have any suggestions of what I should do next.
Thread title:
Strangest type of metroid art I've ever seen, yet very cool.
I made another one, this time from Kraid's hideout:

Seeing how the original got little commentary, this time I'll include the template upon request. (Don't get me wrong, I don't want to hide this from anyone, it's just that I'd like some comments.)
One shall stand, one shall ball.
These are awesome, did you make a Kraid to go with the second one? It really needs one.

Yeah, those two illusion spots are for Kraid and Samus. I don't know an efficient way to include cutouts to the render, though, so that's why you don't see them :<
I'm probably doing Ridley next. Then Mother Brain. Oh boy!

Yahoo.
Next, do a room from one of the Prime games.  But seriously, this is awesome.  Keep up the good work!

Mister ...
Next time someone tells me I have too much free time on my hands, I'm going to show them this thread  laugh new

They're all very cool.  I just wish I had some printer-friendly cardboard paper.  It's a normal 8.5x11 template, correct?

EDIT:  I don't see any links for the newer ones (Mother Brain and Kraid).  Maybe when I get my room re-arranged, I'll set these up on my computer desk.

Well, not really, no. I used the European A4 standard, which is 210 x 297 mm, but I can optimize a template for you if you want me to.

That'd be pretty difficult, since Metroid Prime doesn't follow the 16x16 block rule nor have ripped tilesets available from the internets. :<

EDIT: The template
Cut-outs

This is awesome. I really got to get some cardboard paper asap.

BTW, why don't you use super metroid (maybe even ZM/fusion) tilesets? I guess it would look even moar awesome if you used those.
I just thought the NES-like ones would look more cool. You know, nostalgia and all that.

I might try a SM-one later on. Maybe the Crocomire scene.

That's a good point. However I think SM is pretty nostalgic too, that's why I mentioned it before even thinking about zm/fusion.

That'd be great. =)

Thanks for the rating.
And no, I haven't tested them, as I don't have sturdy paper nor ink in my printer.
However, a friend of mine tested the Brinstar one and said it works wonders.

It's just a tad-bit bigger than the 8.5x11 inch paper, but that's only with height and by almost .75 of an inch.  Don't worry about making a special, optimized template.  I'm sure I can figure something out on my own.  Thanks anyways for the offer.
Do you really need sturdy paper?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Or could you use Metroid Pop-tarts instead?

You could probably do it with regular paper, but it might be difficult to keep it from collapsing under its own weight. You'd likely need to add some additional support.
You can go without sturdy paper, but the sheer amount of ink will make the paper curl.
plasma beam v.2.0
officially, the longest time spent on something seemingly simple yet so freakishly awesome!!!
do one of the tourian rooms with the metroids and rinkas
Phoenix
These are awesome. Obviously next we need Ridley's room to complete the boss set.

For a Super Metroid room, maybe one of the other bosses whose room isn't too big, like Spore Spawn or Torizo or Phantoon.
