I saved at the ship at about 01:00 (I didn't actually check).  I got Spazer, Ice Beam, Speed Booster.  I'm attempting early Wrecked Ship because I forgot where Grappling Beam was while I was in Norfair.  I hope not having the Grappling Beam for the rest of the game isn't too much of a problem...?  (I have an eerie feeling that I totally messed up the run Sad )

I don't know how you guys pull off these 1-hour 100% runs!

Ok is that 1 hour at your ship?., and you've got to take on wrecked ship next?

Grappling beam isn't essential at all. But only providing you can pull off mid-air horizontal shinesparks well to cross the missle lake heading east from your ship.

I see you don't have wave beam which could make phantoon a bit anoying. I would use 5 supers on him. After each hit when he begins attacking you from the top with a big line of blue smoke just charge your beam up to somersualt through them without taking damage. After that save it at the now operating save station in the main room in wrecked ship and check back wiht us your time again. Very Happy

Something that isn't common knowledge for some reason is that you don't need to shinespark to get into the Wrecked Ship without Grapple.  You can just do some low running jumps to the platforms.

EDIT: Oh, you were talking about the room before that.  Well, I'm pretty sure you can jump that one, too.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
You can, but it's much easier to spark from the room before, as it doesn't require anywhere near the accuracy.

If you wanna jump across the missle lake you have to do the continuous wall jump trick. Unless you mean you can actually jump it from the missle podium. There's a better chance that happening on NTSC anyway coz samus jumps slightly further on that version. I would imagine you'd get just a couple of frames to perform a wall jump onto the platform after biggest jump you could possibly do on that tiny podium. On PAL this is all entirely impossible.

You don't need any mid-air shinesparks, just one horizontal to cross the lake, and that's going to be easier than a continuous walljump.

Also, if you're headed back for grapple you want to go revisit the path to ice beam.

Ahh got a bit mixed up there. I guess i should have generalised it to just shinesparks. Since i always do midair ones from the ki hunter room right back.

And obviously any shinespark is easier than a CWJ Applause

He will be retreading the path back to get grapple through ice beam route if he's got ice beam or not d'oh!

Quick question about the flat mockball.
Idea is to jump only slightly, but for the mockball the jump button needs to be pressed.
If I get this right, you therefore press and hold jump until you reach the intended height. Then you shortly release jump and press (and hold) it once again to pull off the mockball.
The other buttons are the same as for the "normal" mockball.

So far so good or any other comments?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Nope.  That's pretty much it.

Ok, thanks! It already works quite fluently. I forget to repress jump from time to time.

Next stop: IBJ.

Hehe, that one only gets tough if you want to do the double-jumping version.  The slower method is fairly easy to get straight away.  Next you'll be on to diagonal bomb-jumping the Missile Lake. Wink

Hehe, in fact, I`m already able to do the mid-air morph ibj variant. Starting from solid ground, I fail most of the time. I simply need lot more practice to get into the rythm.

If you want to learn how to Super Short Charge you can look on my You-Tube page. I made a video and a description that explains it.

I entered your page and liked your Gauntlet Shinespark trick. I tried to improve it with the way i think it's faster that is doing the shinespark in the air. Here is the SMV file. If you want, encode this and post on youtube. I don't know how to encode this kind of file.

Thank you I'm glad you liked my video. Well I didn't watch your video yet but, I'm pretty sure you jump off and Shine Spark in the air. I'm I correct? It is faster if you do it that way but its very hard to time correctly. I only posted my video to give people the idea to try it in a run. The other way is much more dangerous but, it would be much faster honestly. If I'm wrong about the video I'll take a look at it. I'll make my own video about it soon I've just been busy practicing.
Hello! This this my first post on the board, I just recently discovered Super Metroid and have been thoroughly hooked.  I just have a few questions really quick.

As far as my running the game goes I'm currently just trying to take a pretty quick route but nothing too intense.  In the run I'm currently at I just killed Draygon and am saved at the first Norfair save with my time at 59 minutes with 4 energy tanks, 50 missiles, 20 supers, and 5 power bombs, no grapple, just to give you an idea of where I am at in my playing.  My questions are:

Is there any difference in getting the ice beam when you first enter norfair before the speed booster or to get it on the way to the wrecked ship?

I have a lot of trouble with draygon mostly because I always seem to run out of power bombs to clear goo.  Is it worth getting another upgrade and which is the fastest?

Also is it only worth getting power bombs before norfair if I also go to the wrecked ship before norfair?

Finally, I'm pretty sure I have seen more than one video in which people continuously wall jump while holding a charge.  For some reason I always come out of the spinny jump when I have a charge, was wondering if there is something I am missing or if I just watched the videos wrong?

Thanks for the help
1.  I can't think of any impact ice beam really has for getting speedbooster and wave beam.  I know that some people like to get it and turn it off for the return trip up brinstar, which I think is mostly to kill the two skrees a little faster.

2.  You should be arriving with 4-5 powerbombs I think, I wouldn't bother getting more since I'm pretty sure goo can drop powerbombs.  Draygon also has a nice close save point since it sounds like you're running segmented.  I really can't think of any tanks that aren't out of the way either.  Maybe the landing site powerbombs in the upper right?

3.  I don't think you get anything out of backtracking after powerbombs, I can't think of a second powerbomb tank you could be getting with them while running around early norfair, and getting up the shaft without icebeam is a hassle.  It *might* help a little bit with rolling under the lava rising room on the way to the bubble room, but that doesn't seem like much  You might also save a little time returning from icebeam if you're having trouble mid-air morphing or mockballing through the room with the closing gates.

4.  Release the shot button while you are spin jumping.  You will fire when you hit the ground or press shot again.
Thanks for the help, without too much difficulty with Ridley and a just a little grief on Mother Brain I managed to finish in 1:27 which beat my goal of 1:30 for the run so that was sweet.

My only question for now is regarding Boss health and weapon damages, I was wondering if someone could point me to a topic where I can find this information, for example, how much health mother brain has and how much each missile/super does to her.  I wasn't sure how much it took to kill mother brain and thank goodness I didn't save right before her to attempt the Zeb glitch and instead just saved at my ship since it turned out I didn't have enough missiles/supers to bring her to phase two my first time down there.
There's some nice guides on gamefaqs that have damage info.  I'm not sure if you just mean the missiles to break the glass, or for all bosses.  Looks like 30 missiles or 10 supers after the glass breaks, which is 6 missiles.  But if you're wonder about dps against bosses, supers have a higher output than charged shots, murder beam has a lower dps than both(?) but wins out since motherbrain takes damage while in the scripted scene.
I was wondering a couple of thing, First how do you pull off the horizontal jumping shinespark, and second what is the fastest way out of the ice beam room?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
For the horizontal spark, just hold jump, and press left / right.  To do it in mid-air, spin-jump, break the spin (I just press up), and then do the same thing as before.

As for the Ice Beam room, unless you're planning on heading down to Crocomire for one reason or another, then the fastest route out is the same way you came in.  Freeze the two moving platform enemies next to the last 'island' before the door, so that they both extend the platform.  Then stand on the left-hand enemy, and run to the right (across the 'island' and the other enemy), do a small jump, and mockball out.  If you only freeze one enemy, it's still possible, but is much harder to get enough speed to pass the first gate in the next room.
Thanks Quietus the ice room escape sound awesome i'm going to try it right now i just learned the mockball a couple of months ago and i figured you could some how use it to get out of that room
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
Here is where damage info and boss healths can be seen
ok how do you pull of the trick where you get hurt and go flying away really far?
when damaged by an enemy or spikes and other thing that pushes her back, you have to be holding the jump button or press and hold jump as soon as possible, and press and hold in the opposite direction Samus is facing.
