I was messing around w/ Ridley and he picked me up and I shot waves and waves of missles and I thought hey, mabey if I make him put me down at the wall he will smash me and do a lot of damage! So I did, only to have myself STUCK IN THE WALL Shocked!!! From there I killed him easily w/o being damaged!! :D It was easy to get out too.
Thread title:
That's been known for quite a while, and many have used it in their 1% runs over at SCU.
Isn't that a SW? Last time I checked, you're not allowed to use SWs in Speed Runs (AKA going out of the room limits). Also, wouldn't Samus die from staying in Ridley's grip w/o and Energy Tanks too long?
Afaik it's not a SW as you can't walk around too much out there, and I've never actually done it myself, so I don't know the minimum amount of damage taken when getting out of there.

Being wedged in the wall doesn't count as leaving the game boundaries.

Actually, isn't there a way you could barrage it with charged beams and destroy it before it performs its tail whip and lowers your defense by -1?

Wouldn't that raise your defense by 1? </math pedant>

And as far as I interpet SDA's rules (which might not be a perfect interpetation, but I think I've got this right), in a 2D game, you'd have to walk through a wall and off the screen before you'd start to be considered "leaving the game boundries".
Ohhhhhhhhhh, thanks for the info!

Darn ambiguousness...that's why it's hard to argue for a M1 2 item run to be accepted. You basically warp to the other side of the screen.
I never knew that-I always killed Ridley before he could grab me, but I wouldn't say it was an SW since you are still inside the room.
If you can see Samus the whole time, I don't think it would be a SW.
One...what is an SW...and how exactly do you get Ridley to toss you out of the screen?
I'll be back. Maybe...
An SW: The area outside the game boundaries. The term originated from Metroid 1, in which there was a door clipping glitch whereby you could climb out of the top of the screen into bits of the system code.

In MP and Echoes they are reached by clipping glitches, which the Screw Attack produces in abundance e.g. Screw Attacking into Spider Guardian's tunnel to get into an SW to skip the Cobalt Translator.

Edit: It's done in DJGrenola's run, IIRC

They are also present in M2, and used as shortcuts, but are very glitchy and full of Metroids which don't decrease the counter and bits of Chozo statue.
*nods nods* I've done the door thing before...but why is it called SW? What does SW mean? Oh and I didn't know about that stuff in MP and Echoes...
SW stands for "Secret World".
Oh...that makes sense...
Speaking of SWs, I could never get any SWs in Prime 1....
