Hello everyone.

You might know me and my work from other people's descriptions. My discoveries have been discussed and discounted as idle rumours, but they are in fact all real. Unfortunately, many of them are incredibly difficult to pull off, and so everyone assumed they must be false because nobody else has apparently done them.

At the time, I hadn't grabbed any pictures of the green chozo room the few times when I did it, and I also have been having trouble getting it to actually occur again - I was honestly worried for a while it was a one-off, unrepeatable glitch like in many NES games where you can have the cartridge loose and cause all sorts of strange bugs. But thanks to newer emulators (which seem to also be more accurate to the original hardware), I've managed to reproduce the bug and record undeniable proof that it's real.

I'm sure you'd like to see that, so I'll just post the video now so you can see it for yourself. :)

For those that are unfamiliar with the glitch, let me explain how it works (or you can go to http://mdb.classicgaming.gamespy.com/sm/mikez.htm for more in-depth information):
You need to have the speed booster and defeat Crocomire. You also need to be able to air-speedball easily, and have exceptionally good timing and positioning. Unlike what I said before, you *do* also need the spring ball, sorry about that lack of information.
Go to Crocomire's room, and start from the far left. Run to the right, and jump *immediately* after you pass the third-to-last growth on the ground. Hit your head on the ceiling, then do an air-speedball and continue to hold Jump. You have to time everything so you are *rising* as you hit the exact corner of the room. If you do it correctly, you will break the top right corner block of the room, and go to a screen showing a green Chozo statue. Unfortunately, the game freezes (even on the actual hardware) and I haven't ever found a way to avoid freezing the game. Try it and see if you can figure something out!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Wow, I honestly thought it wouldn't work, but I just tried that and it did. That's insane.

That's pretty cool. Even if there's no method of keeping it from freezing, I think this should go up on the site under glitches. That's pretty crazy.
What'd you say?
I always thought it was a really lame rumor, gratz on getting proof dude! Are there any other glitches you know about?
awesome! and kej said it couldn't be done!

I tried this for about three hours, but couldn't get it to work.

I then had a stroke of luck, and got through.  I managed to then replicate the feat, and found that you can prevent it freezing by pressing up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A as you speedball.  Once you do this, you can take an elevator in the room, which takes you to the first area of Brinstar (where you get the Morph Ball), and can restart collecting all the items, but the game has a new palette, a little like Super Mario World.  (Geemers look cool, as they look like Samus's helmet).

Would've been funnier if you actually used his old account. :P

I've been proven wrong? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....
Funny story 072, I completely forgot I had that account when I signed up here. It wasn't a fun surprise when the forum told me I couldn't use my normal name when signing up. Unfortunately I can't remember the password.

I can tell some of you aren't taking this seriously. I know I chose a bad day to post this, but I just got it to work and recorded a day ago and didn't want to wait to post it. What can I do to prove this isn't photoshopped or something?

now i dont know who or what to believe and im too lazy to try it myself.

Essentially, nothing.  The fact that this is such an old running joke / fake idea, coupled with the fact that there is no reason whatsoever for there to be a way to break that block to pass through, make it altogether impossible.  Perhaps if you did this on console? Wink

whoa!!! i would try that but cant speed boost in morph ball, its just impossible to me!
Wow i just tried it for 10 solid hours and it worked.  Rolling Eyes

Considering people can port hacks onto a console cartridge, doing it on console wouldn't be that convincing either. :P A ZSNES or snes9x movie would be a decent start though.
But most people have heard of the glitch and how to do it, and it both doesn't work and doesn't make sense... so yeah, you pretty much can't prove it.
I saved the .smv file I recorded with, but it's just the same thing as the YouTube movie... it doesn't show anything different.

I'm serious guys, this glitch is real. It's really hard to trigger, but if you hit the corner correctly it *does* work.

Just so I'm sure, is this using ZSNES or snes9x? Also, can you tell me the version?
It was recorded on snes9x. You can download it from http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6471
These forums are pretty active, I'll have to check here more often.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I won't believe it until I see it done by somebody else.  There are any number of TASers active here, and any one of them could duplicate this relatively easily, and within a short space of time.
Almost happy
Started from a point in a normal playthrough and went back to Crocos room, I aligned myself in the exact same position as in that smv, right down to the last subpixel, equipped the exact same things and copied every frame from the point he started running until he hits the upper right block, and... nothing, of course. I don't get how he made it work in his smv though (nor do I get why your position have to be so extremely precise to make it work when you try to do it when having his smv as a startpoint).

Here is a smv of me trying anyway.

The video's been removed. Nintendo is trying to silence you, MikeZ. Don't let them get away with this.
Time bomb set get out fast!
Oh, this is gold.  MikeZ -- er, I mean you were before my time, but I've read Brickroad's Glitch FAQ about fifty times.  Good show.

Now set bombs on the four statues and break into Warfair!  Even if it takes you hours and hours!  And hours!

and it's a total coincidence that this discovery is told to us on april fool's day, I've been told that the Sram in the .smv is hacked, and the fact that I've tried this multiple times and hit the right block and failed every time? I don't think so.
