In this interview Reggie says it will be side scrolling! Hopefully it is true. Go to the second to last tab "Will the new Zelda Wii release in 2010?" or you can watch the whole thing.

I think it was unclear whether he was saying Other M was sidescrolling, or the metroid games in his memory were sidecscrolling.

we saw footage of some first-person and some side-scrolling. i don't really see a reason to think that's changed until we get another video or something. fils-aime is not developing other m and might not actually know anything about it.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!

This is why I prefer to see gameplay trailers over anything else, and never really believe much without having seen it. The problem is that most companies just want to throw sparkly footage at you. SquareEnix are notorious for it.

It works though, I'm megahyped for FFXIII, and I've hated all FF experience I've had in the past.

I should but I don't, that's the genius of it.

Plus, since I got a PS3, I've been a bit of a sucker for awesome graphics, of which it looks FFXII will have in abundance. But even with my new-found weakness for good graphics, I still play my N64 and GC more than anything else.

What, you'd rather the fro be on a pale dood, and thus look completely wrong based on our hair-to-complection sensibilities? It's a muthafuckin' chicobo, muthafuckas, in his hair. That's friggin' awesome. Plus, he wear green. Only way they could eff him up for me by design is if he sounds like Chris Rock/Tucker (I can never remember who's who, even worse than my past trouble with Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson; whichever has that impossibly high, impossibly energized voice that burrows through my sanity with giant needles).

The game's going to incorporate side-scrolling parts, but it's not going to be fully sidescrolling. Some of you should take another look at that trailer.

But nothing has been officially confirmed yet - that I've heard anyway... Some of the footage could simply be in-game links to acquired abilities, or new areas, like the lifts are.

The last sidescroller was zm, and i think most people wanted a new sidescroller. And samus with gaiden skills would be cool, but it could easily ruin the series (in my opinion)

i hope no one at nintendo reads this post. it is almost 6 years since ZM by now and i really want a new one.

also, Reggie is a dumb PR guy. i don't believe anything he says since it is 99% BS or bent info (although i wouldn't be surprised if they dropped the 3D elements from M:OM and made it a complete 2D game with 3D graphics. after all, RD1's strength is 2D)

Super Mario Club's always been a quality control/debug team, I think. Sir Wikipedia doesn't say anything about the two being the same, either, though it does claim that R&D1 is making Other M.

Anyhow, if it does mix 3D and sidescrolling, it seems like they'd have to break things up into stages. You can't have a free-roaming exploration game where you transition between dimensions, that would be way too awkward for map design and for gameplay... though I guess no one was expecting free-roaming, really.

I was a fan of the 2D/3D aspect of Sonic Unleashed, but that worked because Sonic is a very always-go-forward game. I dunno how I'd like it with Metroid, but then again, I trust R&D1 to know what it's doing. (Haven't played any of the 3D Ninja Gaidens yet...)

And if it's fully sidescrolling? Sign me up regardless.

Ah, I remember know. I know R&D1 best as Nintendo EAD, which is what R&D1 and 2 became. So there is no R&D1 anymore, according to Wikipedia.

as far as i know, the core of R&D1 is working along Team Ninja in the development of the game. i think that was in an interview.
the R&D1 people would guide the Team Ninja guys to ensure they get what they want properly. TN is mostly in charge of the graphics and that kind of stuff since R&D1 are 2D specialists and have very little 3D knowledge (sorta like Intelligent Systems but those guys know more 3D)
there' many teams under "Nintendo EAD" currently, R&D1 being one of them. i think they aren't called that anymore and that's why they're referred as just EAD now.
