CALLING ALL SEQUENCE BEAKERS FOR HELP

im workin on getting every possible upgrade, missle expansion, atifact, scan, etc...without ever getting the space boots.  iv gone through WITH the spaceboots and tested every item without the use of the SB.  Aside from the items that absolutely require the plasma beam, i have all but like 2 or 3 items solved.  Eventually i may type up a walkthrough thats more updated than the one on gamefaq.  but im looking to recruit help from some good sequence breakers to find the easiest methods for solving the rooms.  some rooms i have solved but are kinda hard. the xray visor room for example.

i also want to know if it is possible to get the subtank in one of the access tunnels without the plasma beam.  the one thats behind the wall of ice. i watched a video of getting to a secret world in this room.  i was thinking it may be possible to patially walk back through the wall enough to get the tank but not enough to be stuck in the crevice behind the ice.
Thread title:
I would help ya, but I'm a horrible sequence breaker. I'm just curious, plasma beam items aside, what are the two or three items you can't get? I'll help search for ways.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
go! go! go!

As far as I know, no one's ever completed a run like this, because it makes the game much slower.

I've done the same thing with MP2, but not on the original Prime.  I can and DO encourage your efforts, though.

You can't get 100% scans-- you need the Space Jump Boots for that.

Also, you might want to change the name of the topic to "maximum % no SJ run", as the abbreviation "SB" is commonly known to mean "Sequence Break" in this community. "SJ" or "SJB" means Space Jump Boots.
Yeah, Ark is right... a max % no SB run is.... I can't even think of the correct word. Sorry. Good looking out, Ark.
Bangaa Bishop
At first I read this as a "no sequence break" run. I didn't get it until I read the actual post. Still, good luck :)

Hey this sounds cool. i will be glad to help ya with anything as long as it doesn't involve secret worlds. Secret worlds kick my butt so i stay away from them. Good luck
EDIT double post
im currently at 70% but also havent collected all the items i already solved so i think aound 80% is possible.

ANYONE ELSE WANNA HELP WITH THIS PROJECT?

kmstreet64-if you have aim IM me sometime. my screenname is same as here. lemme know what urs is. also the items im having trouble with are...
M.E.- Great Tree Chamber(the jump from the invisible platform to the ledge behind the great tree is really far. perhaps a HBJ from the ground is possible. i tried a wallTBJ and it was a wheee bit to short.
M.E.-Root Cave(i forgot exactly wich invisible platform gave me trouble but i think it like the last one. it just seems to far and high to make. also the fact that the platforms you jump to and from are both invisible make it extra hard
WaveBuster-Tower of light (im sure it can be done but platted puffers make it extemely annoying)
P.B.E-Warrior Shrine (actually its below this room. having trouble jumping from the extension bridge to the ledge in magmoor processing...think thats the name of the room)
Artifact of Warrior-Warrior Shrine(solving this is the same as above)
M.E.-Gravity Chamber(this should require the plasma beam to melt the ice and unveil a grapple point. but it may be possible to do some kind of wallTBJ or  HBJ.  only problem is the wall is so uneven it will make this extremely hard.

ok so i guess it was like 6 item.
id also like to make note that there is still 1 M.E. i have not found in my %100 run so once i find it ill let ya know if i have any trouble getting it SJ-less

but there is one more item that may be possible as i mentioned in my first post.  I tried the secret world in transport access to see how close i can get to the tank.  i could barely move but certain areas allowed me to get very very close. now even if hypothetically i could have gotten the tank i still dont know how to get back into the room.

once eveythin is solved i want to find out what items that require a plasma beam just need it because they are behind ice. these items may also theoretically be obtained through secret worlds as well. so far i think the transport access tank is possible. maybe the pbe in ice ruins west and the M.E. in ice ruins east.
kyupi+yakisoba=win
i believe i remember someone just bombjumping their way up to the wave buster. Why are you trying to get the items that need the plasma beam without just getting the plasma beam? I mean if you have the boost ball and spider ball you could get the plasma beam. If you have the grapple beam, then it should be even easier. Ill go to work on the great tree chamber and root cave tonight and see what i can come up with.  go go go

Edit:  I got the great tree chamber missle expansion to work without space jump. I killed all the enemies in the area and then i bomb jumped up to area where the poison spitting guy was. From there i scan dashed to the invisible platform using the scan point on the upper left part of the spider track. Once on the invisible platform you can look up really high and there is a sap sack to scan that gives you the perfect angle to scan dash to the door with the ME inside. The dash from the invisible platform to the door has to be almost perfect. If it isn't then you won't have the height or speed to land up there.

edit 2:  to get to the warrior shrine and the pb expansion just get to the top of the central structure, use the boos ball to extend the bridge, shoot a box that is right by the bridge, drag whatever was in the box with the charge beam out onto the bridge and scan dash over to walkway leading to the warrior shrine. Or if you still have the puffers in the room just use one of them off of the tallest monitor. either way its pretty simple.

I can make vids of these if you don't understand my awful english descriptions.
damn craztad.  thanx man that helps alot. i didnt think there was anything that you could lock onto and get the right angle for the dash in great tree hall. also you can reach the invisible platform with a DBJ. As for solving the warrior shrine...thats a good idea using the charge beam to pull over an item.

now i know im complete noob with sequence breaking and to these forums but.......GEO THERMAL CORE is solved without SJ O_O;  i kept reading a bunch of stuff that i thought was suggesting it but i was thinking it was still only partially solved. if i can get the plasma beam i feel confident 100% minus % from SJ will be possible.  please tell me how its done or even show me a video.  if i thought phazon processing was a B**** im sure this will cause me to break a few controllers :) so if it possible to get up geocore without SJ then why is it still required for a minimum percent run?
also if this is true then im prolly gonna have a bigger list of items that are unsolved.

Hey does anyone think this could turn into a new challenge for this site to compete over best  no SJ time. thatd be kewl if i was the founder of that idea. iv got like 22 hours on my file. lol but i will hold the record....prolly only for about 2 hours til some else beats it.
always move fast
is geo core under 22% conditions (you need boost ball).

with this type of run you would have spiderball and grapple beam, so the only trick you need is the laddered hbj from the first spinner to the second spinner.  however, this trick is... not very pleasant.  it took maybe 6 hours from when i first got the idea to try it to finally make it the first time, and i was pretty good with normal hbj timing at the time, and that is with using an action replay to float up to the platform whenever i messed up, so you can get maybe 4-5 tries a minute.  since then i played for maybe 2-3 hours and haven't made it yet.  if you do decide to try this, i wish you all the luck in the world. =)

(note: as for completing this room under 22% conditions without sj in one go, i cannot ever see it happening >_>).
kyupi+yakisoba=win
Ya sparky definitly knows what he is talking about. I have only ever got that stupid hbjump from the first platform to the second once. It took me about a month and a half to get it too. The main reason i said to get the phazon beam was because unless you can get it, you are going to hit a dead end pretty fast.
WOW that vid was crazy! has anybody even been able to do that in one run without using the action replay to float back up whenever they fell. its funny cause thats exactly what i do when solving each room. good thing i dont have to worry about doin it without the spiderball or the grapplebeam. the puddlespore is gone in my file tho. not sure if that will be a problem. somebody is gonna have to teach me that ladder hbj. but first i need to get good at the normal one as i JUST learned it the other day and can barely do it. im definately saving this room for last.

In the meantime i need to collect all the items iv solved then go into my 98%file and see what items need to be solved that required the plasma beam. but itll be a little while before i can do that as i have college and an attention whore of a fiance. i cant just sit down and game when i want like i used to O_O;
I'd be interested in seeing this work myself, and I've been trying to find a reason to play MP again anyway. I'm gonna start a new game today and see how far I can get SJ-less. It won't be easy, I'm nothing special in the SB-ing or secret worlds departments, but I'll give it a go.

Oh yeah, and I have the Pal version, which means I can't scandash either, but it seems to me most rooms can be combat dashed in anyway, provided you leave something alive.

edit: Aaand I'm stuck. I have the boost ball, but I can't get to the wave beam. Any ideas how I can get through Phendrana shorelines without SJ?

As I said, I have pal, so scandashes are out. I'm seriously considering getting a freeloader and a US game just so I can.
always move fast
to chozo ice temple
up chozo ice temple

they're still processing so maybe give it a moment.
Thanks sparky.

Up ice temple works, but the other video doesn't, says it's still processing, I'll have to try again later, but that's some mean bomb jumping to get up there. I've never really had much need to be able to dbj while moving forwards like that, but I guess I do now.

As soon as the other video works I'll give it a go. The only pheasible route I could find is to dash jump acoss the tall pillars in the centre of the room in Phendrana shorelines, but I kept missing the first one or landing on it and sliding right off the end cos I wasn't expecting it.

edit: watched the other video, took me a while to get the hang of the hbj, but I just did it, first time I've ever properly done one, thanks again for the videos.
actually u dont ever have to hbj. use a wallTBJ to get into ice temple. use it on the left side of the ledge where the ME is up the spidertracks.  once your inside just keep DBJing up. the video shows how scan dashes can be used in place of some DBJ's but its not required. in fact i dont think i EVER had to use anything except DBJ TBJ and wallTBJs for everything that the gamefaqs SJless walkthough had me do. there were a few times it told me to but i found ways around using the scan dash as i couldnt get the timing right at the time. Anyways back to the ice temple...When i first started learning how to do any sequence breaking tricks this was like a crash course into it as its the first thing you NEED to sequence break. so it took me a few hours to get the hang of the techniques and get up to the top. but trust me....by about midway through your going to wish every room was this easy.  I used the gamefaq walkthrough to get all the upgrades. it however neglects many items and scans along the way.  there are a few methods in the gamefaq walkthrough that have much much easier methods. some of wich are.....
frozen pike. when it tells you to scan dash from the purple door ledge to the alcove ignore that intirely. find the save room like two rooms away through the purple door. save in case you fall to the bottom cause its easier to get back up by just moving through two rooms. instead of the scan dash just do a DBJ to the branch that sticks out of the wooden bridge. then jump up onto the bridge.

ice ruins east or west??? the one with the stalagtite. gamefaq will tell you this some what extensive method to get through the level, one involving a scan dash. dont worry tho just go right up to the wall by the door you need to get through and do a wallTBJ. much easier.

phazon processing (the hardest room iv come to...geocore excluded) the gamefaq walkthrouhg i dunno if it was innacurrate or just very unspecific so i couldnt tell where i was supposed to go.  first off make sure you save in the main quarry as its the easiest way back to phazon processing. once there, spiderball up the track and DBJ up onto the corner platform. jump across to the platform diagonally across the room. very carefully walk across the very thin bar to the platform in the other corner. DBJ to platform that raise about a body length above the rest of the platforms (the one ontop of the spiderball pole). from here there is a platform that can easily be reached with a DBJ. do not go to that platform as its too far away from the next platform. from your current location set the camera so when you do your DBJ you move from right to left. you need maximum distance and height for this jump (this is the jump from hell). also make sure your jumping from the corner closest to the wall. with a lil skill and luck you may make it up. if you fall all the way down you may as well start from your save point as getting back up is extremely hard but possible.  once you make the jump you can make the next with a DBJ. make sure that the bomb you lay in the air is far out from the platform as after you hit it and unmorph the platform above you will prevent you from getting enough height. from here you can do a normal jump to the next platform but just barely so for security (especially since you will most likely have spent hours to get here) do a DBJ. one more DBJ to the platform  just before the moving platform. once here stand at the edge of the platform looking straight out. wait till the platform has past you by to make sure your looking straight. once your ready and have the mental timing down hold down L and just make one jump straight forward and let the platform come to your landing spot. SCREAM TO THE HIGH HEAVENS HALLELUJAH!!!! as i did when i finally made it. now just jump to the next ledge and walk through the door. find closest save point. I HATE THIS ROOM WITH A PASSION. thank god its near the end of the SJless walkthrough.

i know there where a lot of other methods that needed updating but those are the ones that stood out
thanks for the info on those rooms, I'll check back here when I get to each of those points. I found ice ruins (the one with the stalagmite, lol) surprisingly easy, I climbed up to the top of the place you need to be to shoot it down using mostly DBJs, then was able to DBJ on to it, then DBJ unmorph onto the broken roof directly in front. It was plain sailing from there really. It took me a fair few attempts to get up the ice temple, but once I got the hang of DBJ unmorphs properly, it became pretty simple, then a combat dash once at the top. The irritating thing is knowing I need to return there later for the artifact, but at least I know how to do it now.

So I kicked ass against the sheegoth and the babies, using the morph ball bomb method round the big ones mouth, I've never used it before, but it's much more effective than missiles, definitely. Got the wave beam, got out of there, and now I'm ready to tackle the research lab and Thardus. I hope. With my newly acquired bomb jumping skills, reaching high areas should be a piece of cake, it's just distance I worry about now. And Geocore of course, I'm dreading that. Without the boots it'll be the most annoying room in the game to traverse, but I'll see when I get there.

I won't be playing much tonight, I have Shaun of the Dead to watch, but I'll probably play a fair bit tomorrow, got the day off college. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
my current %: 75
still need to collect the three items craztad solved as well as the others that havent been solved but am sure can be done. then of course plasma beam and everything with it

well dude you dont have to worry about getting the artifact until after you have the plasma beam anyways. by that point ice temple will be almost as easy as doing it with the SJ. by the way....for future reference, once you get all the upgrades in phazon mines. collect and scan EVERYTHING you can before leaving as i said before phazon processing, the only exit from phazon mines, is a b****.

you may also want to back track through the crashed frigate and get the items and scans in there...to bad the door at the begining wont open from that side or you can just continue on through tallon overworld. i may as well tell you how to get through the elevator shaft (heading BACK towards phazon mines) as the gamefaq walkthrough just bypasses crashed frigate all together. firstly shoot the powerswitch behind the grate thats on the elevator. now shoot down the elevator door, collect the tank then exit the elevator. DBJ up onto the elevator. jump onto the first platform. you can jump or DBJ to the next whatever you prefer as normal jumping can sometime be irritating. shoot the water tentacle. DBJ to the platform it was in the way of. wait til the tentacle comes out and shoot it again and DBJ to the floating platform behind you. shoot the next powerswitch with your wavebeam. do another DBJ to the next platform. you have to kinda aim it diagonally slightly going from left to right. from here shoot the next water tentacle. now look at the way the next platform is. you notice its kinda connected to the ground sorta and has a lil bit of height to it. it doesnt look like it but you can just normal jump to a nich on the bottom part of the platform where it connects to the ground on the right side (your technically not on the platform). then just normal jump onto the platform. turn around lock onto the tentacle and jump backwards and to the right against the wall. you will land on a very small nich in the wall. THESE NEXT TWO JUMPS ARE A B****! go into morph form while holding the analog towards the corner. you get to do a DBJ from this tiny nich to the floating platform YAY! once your up here dont feel too relieved as the next jump is also hard. your gonna have to have a side view of your next DBJ (going right to left) and aim it perfect. keep in mind its not a flat surface and you can fall off easily. you also have to jump from the edge. aim for about middle of the next platform. once here your pretty much safe from falling back down. but this next DBJ is still kinda annoying because as you unmorph your coming out of the water and it throws of the  physics of the DBJ. yay your at the top now shoot the last vent to your left with your wavebeam.

so shawn of the dead eh? i finally was able to start to watch that movie for the first time about a week ago till the disc skipped two chapters about halfway into it. i hope it gets funnier after that point as lots of people told me its hella funny.

Yes, it is, but take that kind of stuff to the social topic.

WaveBuster-Tower of light (im sure it can be done but platted puffers make it extemely annoying)
.

Of course it can be done, i was even the one who discovered it. I posted a topic somewhere here, and a video for proof. I also don´t know how to get out of the phazon mines without space jump. If i´d be able to do that, i´d probably get a high percentage, too.

EDIT: You posted how to get out of Phazon processing center but i didn´t understand really which platforms you meant, so it didn´t help to make a jump to a platform which is really far away.
I got as far as observatory earlier today and found I couldn't get any further. I extended the platforms, climbed up a short way, then got caught at the point where you space jump across (normally). So I left there and decided to go for ice beam first, then I could go over the bars and down into phazon mines, then get PBs then back up to Research Lab Aether and through it the other way, using the lift in Phazon Processing. It's a long and difficult method, and I'd rather not do it that way, so if there's an easier way I'd love to know.

In the meantime I'm gonna research the available routes I can go from here, try and find a better way, I'm sure there must be one.
MR. X- yeah i really didnt think it couldnt be done. i had a strong feeling it could be. but since i hadnt yet been able to make the jumps, even with action replay to float me back up, i didnt want to assume.

as for phazon processing. i had the same problem understand wich platforms gamefaq ment. so ill try again. just to give reference to direction.....when you first enter the room through the ice door consider the direction your looking as north. to the left is west to the right is east and behind you south. spiderball up the pole and onto the ledge on the western part of the room. dbj onto the southwestern most ledge. now jump across all the platform and make your way to the northeastern most ledge (AT THIS LEVEL). now carefully walk across the very thin bar to the southeastern most ledge (again on this level. turn toward the platform to the west that is a little bit higher than this one. DBJ onto it. ignore the platform you can easily reach, your going for the harder one. get into the southeastern most corner of the platform your on. this is the hardest jump in the room as you must have maximum distance and height. DBJ onto the southeastern most ledge on the next level (directly above the platform you just came from). now DBJ onto the north eastern most platform. be sure to make your third bomb far out past the edge of your platform because the platform directly above you will prevent you from getting high enough if you go straight upwards. once up here you can barely make it to the southeastern platform (on the next level of course) with just a normal jump. but to be safe use a dbj so you dont fall back down. now all you have to do is DBJ to the very highest platform in the room on the south side of the room. once here lock your view perfectly north and wait for the moving platform to come to you. time it almost perfectly. yay now jump onto the ledge the platform takes you to and walk through door.

demonic-dude i should have mentioned before...make sure that the glass breaks in research lab hydra (maybe aether) before you get the infrared goggles as i think after you get them the glass may never break. not for sure tho.

as for where your stuck....lemme go check where your at cause im not sure what room that is.
EDIT: OOOOOOHHH i see your problem. yeah you cant get up there from here. just make sure you lower the supermissile then you have to get it by going all the way around and entering from above.

Have you been using the gamefaq walkthrough? if not just type in metroid prime and it will be at the bottom of all the different metroid prime FAQs. just make sure you get the infrared goggle before you go into phazon mines as it tells you to ignore them at first but then neglects to have you go back and get them.
Don't worry, I found the gameFAQs guide you were talking about, problem solved.
